Greetings for a new Century,
In a puff of smoke and a harty HI-HO Silver,
The year rolled over and there "seemed to be much ado about nothing". But, that 's only because many people had taken the possable problems seriously and avoided the chaos....
I'll admit that considering the area I live in, I was prepared for the worst.
This preperation DID include the stratigic relocation of 2 Khukuries and a Barong. I don't claim to be a martial artist, but I learned a lot of things really well about 30 years ago. Yes, I'm slower and I don't bend so well, but those who would cause me grief would never know the difference.
Praise God, that so far none of this sort of thing has come to pass anywhere on anything related to the new year, if anything crime, so far, is down. And that is a GLOBAL situation!!! Too bad it's so note worthy.
Happy New Year to You All,
Dan

Your post reminded me that Clayton Moore, better known as the Lone Ranger, died just a few weeks ago in 1999.

Ah well, it's a new century (the millenium is next year according to the 2M1 guys) and life goes on.

Hope it's a non-event for you all as it has been for most. Now, I can wear my "I survived Y2K" T-shirt that I bought last summer (or should I save it for 2001?).

Peace, prosperity and Happy New Year to all!

A few months back a fear peddler called me trying to sell me something so that I might survive the coming Y2K disaster. I asked him how old he was. He told me -- too young to remember WWII. I said, "if this country can survive WWII it sure as hell can survive Y2K. I have everything I need."

As it turned out I was right - for a change.

Have a happy everybody.

Khukuri FAQ

Dido Bill, I agree with you. Most of the hoopla was unnecessary. The scary part was what some superstitious wackos would do. As for the millennium hoopla, I found an excellent and insightful article at the following URL:

I think this puts the whole Millennium muddle into proper perspective.

Happy New Year!

Harry

Bob,
Moore died last week. That's why I said what I did, a sort of subtle tribute.

To All,
Yes, there was much hoopla, some off the wall and some of it was just plain self-serving, but on the whole, the warnings were not worthless.
About twenty-five years ago there was much ado about G.O.'s book "1984". People got a wake-up call and slowed the drift toward the "New Age" into which we were headed. The preperations and corrections that were exercised over Y2K were only beneficial as far as I can see. We're not out of the woods yet though.
Besides, it probably sold a few Khukuries.
And no one can have too many of those!
Dan

No surprise here. Over the next month expect to see some computer glitches related to cash handling, billing and similar. Most if not all of it will fall into the "minor annoyance" category...the only think I'm slightly concerned about is the huge unwieldy system of "government checks" such as SSI, unemployment, various types of welfare and pensions. If those are significantly delayed it'll hurt people, who just *might* react badly. A riot on level of the LA Rodney King verdict fiasco is *extremely* unlikely but not totally impossible.

Rodney King? I haven't carried my M1 Thompson and a bunch of 30 round stick mags in my pickup since the Rodney riots.

The sword of Charlemagne the Just is ferric oxide, known as rust. Great Caesar's bust is on the shelf, and I don't feel so well myself.

Bill,
I'm using both hands, but not lifting much of anything.
But, remember, Fellas, we're not through with this stuff yet.
Keep your Khukuries sharp and at hand.
Dan
