I decided to replace the HF 1x30 and ordered a Reeder 2x72 grinder. I'm going to pick up a KBAC-27D drive, but I'd like some recommendations on a motor and wheels.

I'm having a 220v outlet put in, fwiw. It also needs to be a 56c frame so I can mount it on the frame.

Check out automation direct Iron Horse motors. With that drive you can run up to 2HP. I just bought a KBAC-29 and a 3HP Iron horse motor. Runs great. I spent the extra $$ and got the Forward/Stop/Reverse and main On/Off switch.

Wheels can't beat pfunderfab on instagram. His website is knifegrinderparts.com. His machining is amazing and prices are down right fantastic

I was looking at that site, are the small wheels the same size KMG uses? I would think they are, but asking if anyone knows since says they are for Hardcore

I was going to recommend vwjackstraw on eBay, but looking at the wheels and pictures, I think these are the same maker? They're definitely the best wheels I've ever used, and very reasonably priced.

Seems like there are more and more options popping up on eBay all the time as well, including delrin/nylon wheels as of late. Something for everybody, in just about any price range.

Are motors like a Baldor or Leeson generally worth a little premium, or is a generic motor good enough?

In a used motor I think so. New? Hard to say depends on the price difference I think.

WEG motors are pretty damn good too
And usually a bit less new.

General Electric, Doerr, and others made good stuff too
I've lucked into a few new old stock motors for next to nothing, definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

WEG isn't exactly a value brand. Just put a new 3hp WEG arbor motor on my table saw. $500

I should probably clarify a bit less as like $50 less than a Baldor
In my experience they are fairly comparable

I won't say that Baldor's aren't worth the money (especially used), as the one's I've seen last darn near forever. That said, for a hobby maker, or somebody who's not running their machines 8-12 hours a day, an IronHorse should fit the bill just fine. We use several "Worldwide Electric" motors at work, which if I didn't know any better looks like it might come out of the same factory, or at the very least, the same part of the world), and these motors run pumps for 5 days a week minimum, around 16 hours a day or more, non-stop without issue. I won't say we've never had to replace one, but probably no more than any other brand. Not to say there aren't lemons from either end, but I personally feel comfortable with the imports for my use.
