How do the "full German" PUMA Slip Joints compare to the SBG models with German blades? Also, on auction sites, how do you tell them apart?

Do the older full German PUMA Slip Joints compare favorably with the other Solingen import knives and the better USA made knives? Looking online, I didn't see any full German PUMA slip joints at the places I looked. Are they still being made in Germany or, is our only option older knives or the newer German blades put together in China?

If you had $50 for a Stockman, what would you buy? If you had a $100 what would you buy? Why would you choose one brand over the other?

TIA,
Sid

as far as puma goes, I tend to buy only knives made in the 80s back when their quality was not questionable.....anything newer than that and you risk getting a turd in a box

but that's just me.....

Says they still make some of their knives in Germany. The ones marked "Puma IP" are made elsewhere.

Knifecenter is a BF dealer member who appears to carry some German Puma knives.

Personally, when it comes to a 4" stockman knife, I tend to be partial to Buck 301's. They can be had for less than $50, are well built, and they get the job done.

I have a Canal Street stockman for which I spent about $100. They can still be had here and there. 440C blade steel. Nice covers. Well built, good looking knife.

Boker also makes a knife in Germany. They make some in China as well. The German ones run North of $50. Good quality. Some in carbon steel. Some stainless. A few 440C. The ones in 440C run ~$100. I have a Boker 440C serpentine jack made in Germany. I'm happy with the quality I got for the price I paid.

Puma Germany has a knife I almost got. The Pocket Hunter II. I could get it for $160. Unfortunately it uses 440A steel. If a knife is going to cost that much I'd like something more premium. That particular blade I would've bought if it was 440C even. It'd still be overpriced with that steel, but it is a sweet style of blade.
