Puma vs. Randall?

Although I've heard of Puma knives, I'm really not familiar with them. Their high end knives seem to command premium prices. How do they compare with Randall, in terms of overall quality, edge retention? If that is too broad, how about comparing the Puma "Skinmaster" (model #116010) with the Randall Alaskan Skinner (model 11)?

Thanks,
Tim

Good topic...

I can't compare those particular models but I can compare the Puma Bowie and say the Randall No.1. Both knives appear to be well constructed and use good materials. The Puma's grind lines are darn near perfect. The Puma's handles are stag and well done but a little more attention to the bolts seems to be in order - to reduce and sharp edges. The Puma's blade is the 440A or the German equivelant. The edge is sharp, holds an edge well, and appears easy to resharpen. I'm not sure the Randall needs much description. Overall, I feel the construction of the Randall is superior - this knife is a legend for a reason. However, I feel the Puma is not far behind in quality and would feel very confortable in recommending this particular model to any one interested in a high-end factory made knife. Sheath wise, while the Puma comes with a decent one it can't really compare to the Randall's. By the way, I got my Puma Bowie from Held's for only $65 - a real steal!
