a 'pure tactical folder' here means it is
designed only for special ops, military, etc.
no other purpose should be taken into consideration.

which tactical folder do you think is
the best ?

the price range below $200 would be
reasonable. i dont think the government will
pay 400-600 to buy a folder.

ANYTHING by Carson. Hes the best Pure tac folder maker in the world IMHO.

He has a iron clad return policy and refurbish policy. His folders are tested by real users in the military. This is what guide his path. One of the best liner lock builders alive..

Darrel, you make a great case for Carson, I agree with you, and I don't think anyone could argue with what you said!!

Pat Crawford.

Check out his KFF, Wortac, Carnivore, etc. models. Tactical with a capital 'T' baby!

If it has to be less than $200, I think you can find a lot of really good knives for around that price. REKAT also has a Crawford Carnivour with a ROLLING LOCK for less than two bills. The aforementioned Emerson Commander, Spydie Civilian, etc...

Hope this helps!

I dont think I could argue with the Carson model folders, although I dont think that would meet your under 200 price tag. If money was no object, I think Carson would be the obvious choice. For your price limit though, I would have to say the Spyderco Military. Its a solid, easily carried and versatile folder.

I think he Gov would pay 400.00-600.00 for a folder of good quality, why not.....they pay 600.00 for toilet seats and lightbulbs!

I would second the REKAT carnivore. Once it's locked, it's almost a fixed blade.

And, since the military doesn't have length restriction, I put in the SIFU as well.

MTHunter, it depends on what part of the gov't you're talking about. If you're talking SOCOM, then they might spring for more than $200 a pop. If you're talking regular military, you'd probably be hard pressed to get them to pay over a $100 a pop. Recently one branch was looking for a good COTS knife for their personnel to carry as part of their survival vest, a folder. They had Militaries, BM Auto, auto's from other manufacturers, and one that they looked at was the Endura. Well, guess which one they picked, with cost being a HUGE factor in their choice. The toilet seats, lightbulbs, and other items that you hear about in the sensationalist media are generally not COTS items, but require development for the specific application they are required for.

OBTW, almost forgot... agusto5225... you might want to take a look at that Spyderco Endura.

It seems to me the most obvious pure tacticals under $200 dollars would be the AFCK and the Military. The AFCK was designed by Chris Caracci for tactical use and Sal Glesser explicitly said that the Military was to be used in tactical conditions.

While it is somewhat difficult to chose a knife with the criteria being "tactical", a starting point for any medium to high strain work would be a strong and stable lock. That eliminates most liner locks including the Spyderco Military, AFCK and many customs unless you want to do modifications on them. Beyond that basic decision you would need to look at exactly what kind of work it would need to be able to handle. As well as any special conditions, extreme corrosion resistance, nonmagnetic etc .

thank you all for your help !
it looks like a lot of knives can get the job done, maybe we can give some restrictions

suppose
1. you are a member of the assult team
(not sniper, eod, medic, etc.) in counter-terrorist/hostage rescue team/SWAT.
2. there is only one knive with you (no
fixed blade), in other words, everytime
you have to use the knife in the action,
that will be your folder.
3. most of the time you are in the cities.

please tell me which one will you choose.
( as i mentioned before, < $200. )

You need an automatic knife, big blade, strong locking mechanism, good clip, hell just this list comes up to 500 US$ or more.

There are basically two options in my opinion: one of the BM auto with a strong blade (not the spike type) or a military / starmate from spyderco (but there does the auto option)

If its your life on the line, do what many of us have done in the past - spend your own money on the best gear possible, and let the pencil pushers make decisions regarding your life based on budgets...

Agosto, when you say tactical do you mean a heavy duty utility knife that could be used in military/LEO applications, or do you mean a weapon? And if you mean both, which use should take precedence in your opinion? We always use this term tactical but we never are precise in the definition.

You can make a decent case for a big, well-made Balisong in the 6" blade range, as long as it's got a minimal double guard at the base of the blade. Many do.

Other than that, the Sifu is the undisputed king.

Let's face it, for the "killing people" part of tactical operations, most Special Forces and military people carry guns. A knife will most likely have a strictly utility role, though anything sharp can be a deadly weapon. If you're really a member of an assault team (and not a civilian) you should be able to carry, and should carry, a fixed blade, with a folder a backup. I don't think the restrictions given above are particularly reasonable, given the role you seem to be envisioning for this knife. Disregarding this, I would go for the SIFU, or the Spyderco Military.

If it was not for your price range I would agree about both Kit Carson and Pat Crawford customs. Due to your price range you are still in good shape with factory versions of both makers knives. I would go with either a carnivore or on of the M-16 series knives. Since you will be looking at factory knives I would also suggest the MOD Trident as being a verygood design and value. If you want a "fighting knife". I would reccomend the folding Hobbit or the Carnivore. My vote is for utility.

Cheers,

ts
