Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

I'll call this a failed project at this point but only cosmetically, it's insanely comfortable. I'll use it as a shop knife and see how the scales hold up. The idea was to have a completely forged shape with leather scales so the spine all around is brut de forge. I thought I'd start out with a very basic shape.

I may peel the scales and try again. A couple of lessons learned. Lose the stitching (looks tacky), use less leather on each side (way too thick), trim the scales after epoxying instead of fitting them beforehand.

This ones an abomination but I'm not quitting on the idea.

Merged the "Next Redmeadow Design" thread into here.(this post and the following 6 posts)

Blade shapes, lengths, uses, thickness, what would you like to see in a larger Redmeadow? Tooling, stabilized woods, tapered tangs, thicker steel, whatever the case maybe let's hear it.

Don't forget the poll at top. You can pick more than one selection and change it whenever.

I like 5-6” but I think mainly I’d like to see you do what you think is cool. Oh, and try some herringbone micarta. I think it’d look nice.

A slightly larger, taller Corsair sans the rectangular pin. Maybe two hollow and one solid like the Cowbell?

...and don't forget the thumpling. 😉

Poll results

Overwhelmingly 5-6" blade
- Got it

2 to 1 synthetic vs. stabilized - Good to know, I figured the lean would be towards wood but it sounds like synthetic is welcome as well.

I'll work on this and see what I can come up with. I have a good image of it in my head, I'll try to get it out onto some steel.

Thanks gents, I might close this thread or merge it into the purple thread. Just wanted to see what you guys wanted.

(Edit: thread merged into here)

Sorry, John - I meant to lend some input on your thread but got caught up in other things the last couple of days. I definitely am in the 5-6" blade camp - hard to say precisely what I'd like to see though, you already have some excellent projects in the works.

No worries, I just wanted to grab a quick snapshot of what you guys had in mind. This was an iron that I've needed to get in the fire for a while,m.

For me, if I sketch on a design for too long it gets worse with every change, that's what was happening with this model. I just started over and sketched up a 6" that I really like, it falls in the camp/field knife category I'd say. Tall blade, nice belly, strong design.

Man I hate Costco 650 bucks in one cart

I haven’t hit that amount yet but I’ve gone into the $300’s.

I think I avoid the big hits by having a Costco very close and another about 15 miles away. I probably make more frequent stops than some.

With inflation rising, all things will creep up and surprise you when the bill comes.
