PurpleHeart Wood?

I've had the problem with purpleheart turning brown on my ring inlays. Today I tried swabbing on an oxidizer meant to turn gold black. It worked on the purpleheart and brought out some color. There are probably other chemicals that could do it. Maybe OxiClean?
 
I made a knife handle out of the stuff and heated it in the oven at low temp, 150-200f, it turned more of a deeper red from its purple color, I liked it more than the purple so I kept it that way. It might vary a little from piece to piece.
