Purpose of "Friendship"?

To enjoy the company of others who share some similar values. Integrity is a key value to have and share for lasting friendships.

Karl, if you're referring to the new social function, it puts your friends on your own profile page which makes it easier to find people you want to message.

Go to your profile, find them in your alphabetized friends' list, and click on them to get to PM or email.

OK. I guess I still don't understand the "Friendship Request" from people I don't even know.
I thought maybe it meant we were going steady or somethin'.

They may want to put you on the list to make it easier to contact you with questions about your work. On the other hand, you might simply be getting requests from people who like your work and are using "friendship" as a kind of pat on the back.

weird, isn't it?

I've used it like a contacts list but I think some of the younger members may be thinking of Myspace or Facebook. :)

More than likely they admire your work and want to become your customers. Why are you judging that action? Don't you guys run businesses?

Edited to add: I must apologize for the tone of this post. I'm busy at work this am and rushed that one in. I intended no disrespect.

Come, now, Andy. I'm not judging it at all. I've just never seen any sort of description of its purpose.

Sorry. The tone there wasn't the one I was going for. Busy at work this AM, and no time for frills. I intended no disrespect, and I apologize that i came off that way.

Its purpose is to help you reach your customers, and to discover new ones that have yet to buy a knife from you.

Outside knifemaker circles it is there to aid in socializing with each other on the net. Which is good for our businesses too.

It seems to reek of Jr. High School popularity contest, but that totaly overlooks what a useful tool it is for us knifemakers. Check your list for users that have asked for friendship, but not yet bought a knife. Those are admirers, that could become customers if the knife and price are right. Its an excellent opportunity to intruduce yourself by PM and try to see what turned them on to you.

Abe Lincoln had a beard. Powernoodle has a beard. I have a beard. Do you see a pattern here?

No?

Neither do I. :p

Its a lark. I'm just kidding around. (BTW, I can't grow a beard at 35 years old. No relevance to conversation though.;))

Hi Friends,

I kind of just discovered the Friend thing. Once a couple of guys sent me friends invitations, I started doing it too. Then one guy told me he wasn't into it, that it was a personality thing. I hadn't realized that. I truly hope I have not offended anyone by sending them a valentine. :(:foot::barf::o:p:D

Personally, I wish to show my respect and admiration. And, of course, I like having friends...especially one's who are cool and know how to make knives and are willing to share that with me, which is just about all you guys!

All the best, Phil

PS - I hope my salutations (Hi Friends) don't offend anyone, if it does, TS. ;)

I will take all the friends I can get from around here. We are very lucky to have so many really great people in this forum. I don't care if they are looking to buy my knives or even think about it. Most of my friends here are makers not buyers. Jim

i have a beard, and i have gotten friendship requests.... the plot thickens.
