Purpose Of Lanyard ?

I put lanyards on my knives in case I come across a miniature cowboy village, with a thumb-sized sherriff, who's just caught a 3-inch-tall gang of cattle rustlers/bank robbers/gunslingers and needs to have a teeeeeny-tiny hangin'.

All this time, it's never come to that, though...
They usually work it out with some jail time and community service.

If you’re working Construction, around water or in the Field and especially if you have a pocket clip it would behoove you to have a lanyard attached to you belt.
I have had more than one blade get yanked out of my pocket and only once have I lost one, and that was when it was not attached to a lanyard.
If you want to get fancy you can get one of those spring coil lanyards that they sell for keys.
You can also put your clip knife in you shirt pocket IF you have a Flap you can button.

if the lanyard's attached to your belt how do you use the knife when you want to? cut the lanyard?

i keep a small little chain on my SAK with a clip on the end, so when i attach the clip to my belt loop my SAK hangs inside my pocket, keeping it away from all the grit and it wont fall out and get lost.
