Purpose of recurve?

"Just say no" to necro-threads.--KV

Sure, sure, but it's an interesting subject.

If you do a bit of research on iron age knives it's interesting to see that many were recurved. I was surprised when I started looking. Recurves have some real advantages in a working knife. To some people they have real advantages in a general outdoor/survival knife (B Griffin's SCHF42 comes to mind). They certainly do a better job of working round material, and trapping material while chopping.

older thread and still great to see Matt F. (charliemike) lives on through these old threads......

I like recurves for yard trimming and tasks. I hold knife upside down and pull up and through and it cuts small branches/twigs meaning fresh and green wood.....cutting smooth and even and easier than other blade shapes, imo. also great for cords, roots and such. a great example of a very useful design using this shape is Mr. Griffin's schf42
