Hi,

New to Blade forums here. I'm a CNC machinist and have made some simple slip joint style knives in the past. now I'm looking to make something with a push button style lock. Can someone explain to me how they work, or even better have some detailed drawings of how the milling should look in the blade/liner/handles?

Any helpful insight would be really appreciated,

thanks for your time guys!

Buy one of these, or one of their knife kits and hold it in your hand.

It's a tapered plunger that fits into a tapered hole with side cut out.

Press the button and the small diameter pin shank clears the larger tapered hole.

Don Robinson has a very detailed "how to do it" book with many aspects of folder making including push button release. Details to actual sizes. NBot expensive. You should be able to google him. Very good guy too. Frank

For $100 you can buy a Runt or Stinger from ProTech Knives.
Take it apart, figure it out, and have a Great knife left over from the deal.

Haven't read that book of Don's, but I will second that he is a great guy.

thanks for the replies. I'm Canadian so buying a ProTech is not really an option as much as i'd love to reverse engineer their product. Thanks for the book idea I'll check it out.

Oh and repping Ontario!
