Push cut sharp

Can you get a blade push cut sharp by just using the corners of the white stones on the sharpmaker? I sharpened a native SV30 and I can only push cut on one or two spots on the blade, not the whole blade (if that makes sense) Do people consider it a pushcut if you use a slight sawing motion to get the cut started? I can get it to cut easily that way but not by pushing down straight.

I used the white edges and then the white sides on several knives (Endura 4, Crow, and Starling) and got them decently sharp. I was able to pushcut certain parts along the blade with the Crow and Endura. I think as I get better and can be more consistent throughout the stroke, the sharpness will be more consistent along the length of the blade.

S30V tends to be fairly toothy, so it slices better than it push cuts (that "sawing to get it started" you mention). I suppose if you keep at it long enough, you can get the whole edge polished enough to push cut easily, but I prefer the toothier edge on my S30V blades. I find VG-10 easier to polish to that level of sharpness, but for the things I do with my knives, it seems somewhat pointless for me.

You should be able to get a push cut with the corners or maybe flats of the gray stones ;)

Keep at it.
