Push Dagger

I had mine custom made to my specifications but the best of the shelf model I have seen is the mercworx seraphym (not 100% On spelling), seems to me that it is well made, good and thick, with a good sheath, I can not imagine that one ever lettinh you down.

I've got two of the older Cold Steel push daggers... I think they were called safe Keepers or something. Back when they made them out of AUS-8A instead of the 420 crap. Those IMHO were some of the best. They had like a 4.5" double edged blade and were tough as nails. The New Safe Makers or whatever are OK. I owned a pair but I couldn't get used to the single side bevel. Didn't like that at all. But they are well made.

4.5 inches? either its a tad over 5 inchs or just a tad under 4 inchs, there isn't any thing in between for the safekeeper series! I know cuz I have both hehe. Cold steel safe Keeper 1 is definatly better then any others currently on the market and it took me 10+years to find my two. I was able to find it by posting in the want to buy section in this forum and luckly found someone generous enough to let me buy it off them. They are not in production any more and are a lot bigger then pretty much anything else out there. Here are some pics, you can clearly see what the difference is between the safekeeper 1, 2, and safe maker 1! These safekeeper 1's are the only knifes I would have traded my 5-7 for...

Realistically it's gonna be a choice between a safekeeper 2 and a safemaker 1 and I suggest a safekeeper 2 because of the blade design. the safemakers are flat on one side (actually concaved just a tad) and im not 100% convinced about the cutting potential for slash type of use with it when held from one side compared to the other. Yes a push knife is suppose to be used in a punching manner mainly but it does have fantastic slashing ability as well as you can get so much more leverage out of the T handle compared to a straight blade which may slip!

BTW: I have both Safe keeper 2's in AUS-8A and 420 and both are pretty much as sharp as a razor. I highly doubt either would fail as you would be using this knife for one reason only... the AUS-8A is a bit more shiny although you could easily polish the 420 to an even higher shine if you wanted.

Any who, as Ferris said, "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

The only other reputable pushknife i know of is the Mike Irie Push Dagger which is ground some what more like the safekeeper series in that is it the same on both sides. Its a lot smaller (~3.5 inch blade) and is a lot more expensive as well.

P.S. Don't get caught with them, cops will at best take them and not give them back in most places. At worst you will be facing prison time even though you didn't use it on anyone or branish it (just having one in public can be a felony in some parts)... forewarned is forearmed

the urban pal is not really that pratical for me personnaly. After seeing it up close, a small folder would be easier to handle as well as more pratical. Not quite sure what you would use it for in real life or how it would be more beneficial then a small folder. both youtube videos and the cold steel videos dont really make it look like you could even get a good grip on it. it really is a small knife and id rather have a spyderco ladybug.

BTW: the urban pal is still considered a dagger in most places (as its got the whole push knife thing going on even though its small). If im gonna get arrested, its gonna be with something i can defend my life with!

You can´t go wrong with Cold Steel´s pushdaggers. Personally, I like the new type a lot, those aren´t chisel ground, they are 'C' ground, and that´s great for their intended function. And they are more confortable in the hand, the kraton extending between the fingers.

It's 5 then... It's been a while since I've played with them. It's a big push knife though. Beefy and razor sharp. Pretty scary knife. Especially when you jerk out two of them.

I've owned a few knives from CS made of the 420 stuff. Though you can bring it to a razors edge easily... it doesn't hold it for long. At least in my experience. And flesh and bone dull a knife very fast. That's why I like the AUS-8A better.

I'm curious as to what is your basis for this. I've never heard of a Push knife being treated any differently than a regualr fixed blade. Are the laws in your particular state such that push knives specifically are illegal. In Georgia the same knife laws apply to these that apply to any other fixed blade knife as they are not mentioned specifically in any of the legal verbage. So as long as I don't conceal it... I can carry it anywhere I like with the exception of government buildings or schools and such.

California is an example of where it is Illegal just to have these types of blades on you and is a felony. I havn't have enough time to look up other states but I wouldn't want anyone to get arrested and thrown in to jail for not knowing this type of stuff...

I wouldn't imagine you would use a push blade seriously more then once to be honest... :)

Oh you definitely need to know you own State's laws, and any neighboring states you might carry in. I just thought you were saying that anywhere in any state if you get caught with these it's jail time.

Are 'C' ground knifes good for slashing? I havn't tested mines for its slashing abilities but I am curious. The safe makers are the only knifes I've seen this type of edge on to be honest.

arent they legal in california if you wear them unconcealed ?

Nope, in Cali, all push daggers/knifes are illegal to carry no matter how long. There is no lenght law for pocket folding knifes as well as non folders as long as they dont have a double blade on each side which would put it in to a dagger catagory which is a no no. For folders and nonfolders (regardless of lenght of either), you need to wear it exposed in most places but the law on that is a bit fuzzy some times. Kinda funny how you can carry a 12 inch hunting knife but not a 2.5 inch single sided push knife. Meh laws are laws, don't try to fight the man, the man will put you in jail and ass rape you!
