Recommendation? Push daggers

I don't know if you're aware of this LostCause, or if you care, but I just thought I'd mention that the double-edged/dagger style Cold Steel push daggers are only ground on one side. In pictures online the double-edge ground side is often the only side shown, including on the Cold Steel website. I imagine it comes as a bit of a surprise when people who don't know this unbox their CS push dagger for the first time.

It's the same with the CS Counter Tac series (only ground on one side). And that is the reason I never bought a Counter Tac.

Here is a pic of the "opposite" side of the CS double-edged push daggers. My understanding is that this side is ground slightly concave.

That's some suck there... I just googled and drop forged is the only one that's not like chisel...
Look at the RMJ Tactical Reaver (discontinued but still findable) or the Dragonfly (kind of small but one of the few push daggers I’ve seen you could EDC and use for utility without looking like an absolute clown).
Thank you 🙂

My Safekeeper II & Drop Forged Push Dagger are both not of the chisel ground genre, but my Cold Steel Safe Maker Push Daggers are. Both my Safe Maker Push Daggers have the traditional dagger look on the one side, the other side having the slightly concave flattened surface.
I don't know which models are currently done in one method or the other.

Everyone has their own fancy to tickle, so if a push dagger is your thing, then Go For It.

I myself, have just never gotten why a push dagger is a viable option as a practical matter. Its a little like a .22 cal derringer pistol I guess; not very good in general usage, but its the best thing to have if it is the only thing you have.

I don't understand what a push-knife is even for???? If stabbing was my intention, a dagger is made for stabbing. Is it for close-quarter combat, like on a subway train or crowded movie theatre? I gotta say, you are scaring me!

Some of the images above are lovely knives, but their functionality escapes me. Seems sinister to have a knife just for killing humans. Are y'all sinister?

Are y'all sinister?

I am!

More seriously, push-daggers are, indeed, made for close-quarters stabbing.

I suspect their actual use in almost all cases is to take up space and occasionally feature in frustrated peoples' revenge fantasies.

it basically is a dagger with just a different way to grip, i think its to make it easier for basic thrusting motions and also the grip makes it easy to take out

Yeah, I'm always suspicious of you lefties. 😁

As far as why anyone might want a push dagger, people on this forum, and throughout the knife community, like a variety of bladed instruments that may not have practical daily value. Whether it's daggers (in various forms), stilettos, big bowie knives, samurai swords, etc, etc, people like what they like, and there's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't assume nefarious motives behind such interests.

Humans have always been interested and fascinated by weapons. That doesn't mean they're going to become serial killers. :)

For some odd reason, I want one.

I'd however like to try to avoid Cold Steel because their sheaths just dull everything.

If nothing else fills the bill, I'll just go ahead and buy fully serrated Cold Steel to minimize dulling effect.

Any reccomendations? 😄
In my experience any edge dulling related to a sheath can have as much to do with the user as the sheath itself (how it's drawn and re-sheathed). If the unsharpen's spine is indexed on the sheath, during in/out, I find no dulling occurs.

Don't let a serrated edge on a Cold Steel or any other knife stop you from enjoying the other benefits that might be afforded with a simple regrind. Example my most recent Urban Pal, previously serrated, that I made into a hybrid.

I find the Urban Pal to be very functional in everyday tasks, & lives up to its name very well.

Oh, absolutely, I was not attempting to cast aspersions.

I have a scythe, and I don't think there's a wheat field for at least an hour's drive from here.

No problem Snuffle, the part of my post regarding peoples interest in different types of knives wasn't a response to you, it was just a general comment on the question of "why". I just happened to put it in the same post that was directed at you :) .

Bruh, I made thread about wanting push dagger and people automatically assume I have murder fantasies or plans...

I recently bought regular dagger and I like it, so I'd like to own one of push variations too.

Like someone mentioned, it's like guys that own swords, there's no particular reason for it other than that they just want a sword. And not only that swords were made to kill people, but they also killed waaaay more people than push daggers through history.

also i think the op should just go all out and get the chaos pushdagger with the double frankenstein skullkrushers on the sides

Why are you guys so hostile to the OP?

Let the man buy what he enjoys.

Lots of people have guns, spears and swords and they haven't killed anyone despite the fact those were also made to kill.

I also have a push dagger for last 2 years now and I haven't killed anyone, and I don't plan or want to kill anyone either...

just for killing humans
Works on other species too ! :)

Push daggers are very limited in use for SD and utility .

I use to carry one for SD , just in T-shirt weather , for ease of concealment .

But , not a very versatile fighting knife . Useless for blocking , trapping , changing grips from one one hand to the other quickly , etc .
