Put Micarta Scales on my PM2 but now the screws are just a tad too short

to install the deep pocket clip I purchased from Casey Lynch. Anyone know where I can get screws for my PM2 that are just a hair longer then stock? Also, what size screws are these anyway?

For those that have considered Micarta scales, I must say they are really nice. They seem to be lighter than the G10 and are really nice to the touch. Anyway, here is my PM2 along side my other children. I had a set of bright green G10 scales on it which were nice but since I carry at work I wanted something less obvious; those green scales (which are very nice) will be hitting eBay or will be for sale here at some point.

I am pretty sure that the ones for the Manix 2 will fit and are a tad longer. I know this because I once robbed them form a Manix 2 to put on my PM2 because the originals wouldn't thread right for some reason. The only issue is that you cant use them in the tip-down configuration because they will interfere with the blade or something, I cant quite remember. Also, the Manix 2 screws had a beefier head with a larger Torx fitting so I liked that better anyway. Just ask Spyderco to send you some and they likely will.

(from my disassembly notes)
Pocketclip: T6 2-56x0.017” Panhead Screws Stainless
Standoffs: T-8/9 4-40x0.2065” Flathead Screws Stainless
I believe the stop-pin screws are slightly different length than standoffs.
A well stocked hardware store may have phillips version, but most likely not a torx (Military years ago had phillips, Emerson & other still use).
As jstrange also mentioned, take care to make sure, if mounting clip at pivot, that the screw length does not inhibit pivot assembly.

If you run into a pinch & need some screws, drop me a PM. A store local to me stocks screws sized for PM-2 & Military in stainless & in black finish in a special little firearms fasteners box :-)

Hope this helps,

Have you asked Casey? He might know.

How much is "just a tad"? If minute, could you just counter sink the screws just a tad further into the Micarta?

^^^This. There's no way I'd bother hunting new fasteners for that issue. Just make the holes in the scales a tad deeper.

Unless I misread the post he just needs screws for the pocket clip not the body screws. In case of the pocket clip he would need longer ones unless he relieves the whole area around the clip.

Exactly, but I did order some Manix screws which I'm told are a bit longer. I'll see how those work.

You can email Spyderco and they will send you a free set of screws....
.....oh, wait no they won't, this isn't Benchmade, and your warranty is void now. Hope you don't have any problems with your knife on the future....

Actually, I called Spyderco and the woman said she'd send them out, no questions asked.

Oh snap! The haters will always hate instead of giving actual advice. Glad they took care of you. Post up some pics of the knife when you get it all set up. I love my PM2 deepcarry clip from Casey.....but OMG! Did I void the warranty by putting it on there?:yawn:

And to the naysayers, this is the second time I've called Spyderco and they were more than accommodating. The first time, again while trying to install my Casey clips, the head on the stock screws got stripped. They sent them out no questioned asked.

I also found out why the screws wouldn't catch on my PM2. Apparently the liner was not firmly held against the bottom side of the new scales, so I pushed something inside and moved the liner up as I pushed down on the screws and - WooHoo the screws finally caught and I'm good to go. Installing my Casey clips on both knives has been challenging but persistence finally got it done, and Casey himself has been great to deal with.

Stupid spyderco and casey for making such awesome things :D Looks great

Hey Mulligan - glad you got it figured. Sorry for the late reply; just saw this.

The screws I send are just a tad shorter than the OEM screws. That may help explain it a little bit.

Let me know if you have any other trouble so I can help.

Casey
