I spent some time with Jim Crowell this past weekend and got some great tips. Here is something I wanted to share. These are some sharpening videos that show you how to put a nice convexed edge onto a blade.
Some other things that are important:
-I was leading my grinds into the belt with the edge which kept some knives from whipping through things and cutting well because it was not FLAT.
-I've had my KMG for a little less than a year and the flat platen was already dished out where I do most of my grinding. After Jim milled my platen flat my flat grinds/tang tapering improved instantly.
-Don't rock the spine up too high! The belt pretty much needs to be touching the spine of the blade off and on as you are rocking the convexity in.
-Heat treatment and edge geometry must be dialed in for a knife to perform at its best
Belt progression is 220 to convex, 320 to raise the burr.
