Rather than grind the edge up to get a point, grind the spine down to the edge. Use a stone or a slow belt grinder very lightly and with a lot of dunks in water to prevent heat damage. Take your time.
Yes. If you imagine this blade in the attatchment that had a broken tip. Obviously it is a completely different blade shape but the idea is the same to bring it back to a point. Yours won't be quite as radical as this one though.
It's safer to do the work by hand...Use a file to do the profile from the back if possible, and chances are, you will not even be able to tell it was damaged...I've done several repair jobs for people and so far, have not damaged the temper on any knife...Good Luck
