Putting out a YCS feeler....

I just traded my diamonds for some cash :D Can I get one with the purple heart. Will this particular purple heart stay purple?? I've seen some that was and other that turned brown  I am a purple freak and this would be a fantastic addition to my purple collection. Plus this is one knife the kid was interested in too. So sign me up. :D

i did a little research when deciding to buy some exotics recently. you can plan on the p.h. aging to a dark brown. only on the surface tho, if cut or sanded again it will purple up. don't let this stop you, as it is a highly recommended wood for tool handles. also, it is the heartwood that is purple. it is quite possible that whatever was sent will have sap and heart in the same board and the kamis may not know to use just the heart. hopefully, you will get a pleasant surprise ;-).

Ohhhh Man!!!

It's a beautiful khukuri but I'm already in for a Sarge and I'm kind of looking forward to the ones the Uncle told the Kami's to "go crazy" on. It's going to be interesting to see what they come up with.

Yes, I would be interested in the YCS at $200 or so price.
I would however like to see if they can make the handle out of carved indian sandal wood (the scented type) with inlay designs and a nice knife butt design. I also would like to see a tooled leather or horn sheath with the same inlay and a silver tip design . I don't think having a fancy handle or sheath affects the performance, but does inspire the collector attitude.

Hi Dan,

On mine, I'd love the handle in exotic wood -- I'm not very fussy about what, and since I don't currently have a chiruwa, it could be that too -- providing the pins for the handle don't mess up the design with the inlays. But I'm a realist; I'll take whatever I can get in this model! When are you going to want prepayment?

mamav - if you get one in purpleheart - there are ways to seal the color in with a UV-protected coating so that the aging (oxidizing) is minimal.

Sharks' edge - I too would love a tooled scabbard. I've asked before about it....I'll ask again. It's worth a shot.

Any more last requests?

Sure one more, see if they can use only symbols and skip the initials...

Oh and a uniform thickness tang for the chiruwa...

I'm sure I'm just pipe dreaming... :)

Also not really important but do these have those slots by the spine?

hi guys
Its morning in New Zealand and what do I see but this thread. I'm in for one , not fussy about woods etc just get me one.

Ok....we're nearing the end here.

Those who have put their name on the list, time to cast your vote:

1 - Which kami should we request to do it?

2 - Plain or tooled scabbard? (all have to be the same or they won't get it right and Uncle will shoot me)

My vote:

1 - Sher

2 - Tooled

p.s. there is no guarantee we'll get either, but we might as well try...

1 Sher is my main man, but Bura is the master either one

2 Tooled

Dan did you see my last request? any comments?

Sher for me, since he did that chiruwa-YCS that was one of the last that didn't need a special order. That was with special wood too, albeit of an unknown kind.

I'm not too wild about the tooled leather, especially if it adds to the cost. Special wood is worth a little extra though. Would love to have osage orange or that blood sandalwood on mine.

On your CAD plan, make sure the cho is up against the bolster :D

Hi Guys
Sher or Bura
not fussed about the tooled leather, will go with the majority opinion. Just as long as it doesn't look like a tourist piece.
Regards
Phil :)

Dan!

Can't believe I almost missed this! PLEASE add me to the list. Also, I suggested to Uncle and yourself via separate mail that I wiill gladly prepay for this special run the "standard" price, but would like to see if I could get an exotic wood one. So let me know at the time they come in how much extra I owe, or better yet (I learned my lesson from the BDC / Kerambit order) let me know up front how much extra a special wood one would be and I'll pay now.

Either way I'll be happy as the standard polished satisaal with inlays is a knockout. (For that matter I saw a plain one w/o inlay the other day and it was damn good looking.)

SO: let us know when you determine an exotic wood price and I'll rob the kids college acct. and get the $ to you.

FINALLY: I agree, SHER and TOOLED. :D

Thanks!

Norm

P.S. Chiruwa is just a great plus IMO. Either way is OK!

I'm with Shark's Edge...scented Sandalwood!

Looks good, smells great!

(A new commercial just waiting to be used)

I saw your drool first-hand, Nasty.....you in? Payment won't be due for another week or so...:D

Hmm... Cocobolo done right with wild grain is NICE. Purpleheart with bone in lays? interesting.

how much are we talking about here for an exotic wood, tooled scabbard?

Is the scented sandalwood strong enough for a khuk?

You should know that I am...even if I have to hock another or two...

Ok. Here's what we've got so far.

Uncle has agreed to this:

All YCS models will have exotic wood or horn. The price will be a special one-time price fixed at $225 (regardless of what wood we get). It really should be around $300 with the exotic woods, but Uncle's cutting us a wonderful deal - probably just to get me off his back....:D

We will request a tooled scabbard, but will take whatever comes. ;) And, we will request that Sher (most popular so far) be the kami-in-charge.

I'll let this sit overnight - see if the night crew wants in and then we'll start the official sign-up thread tomorrow.

Post any questions you got now - so we can work out the bugs ahead of time.
