got limited tools........variable speed dremel with silicon carbide , watercool sprayer, drill, some triangle stone.........

any tips to getting serrations started? steel is plain ol carbon (kabar)

I have never made a serrated and I'm interested in learning myself. I think some layout dye, measure and mark where you want them. Use a hardened file guide and some round files.

Get a chain saw file the size of the serration desired. Get a piece of round brass the same size. Make a starter serration with the file. Tape the ends of the brass and file together. Place the brass in the existing groove, and file the next...move to that groove...etc.

excellent, thank you very much. Just so happens i own a few chainsaws and chain files!

Stacy told me abuout this method several years ago and it works great.

believe it or not i freehanded it. I looked high and low in my kitchen (the kitchen is my workshop) for some brass rod and couldnt find anything suitable....

its a working knife though, a few thous difference in spacing is not going to bother me....

here we go, my serrations on a Kabar Becker BK2. They are nice and sharp and slay rope and fabric nicely.
