I've been wanting one for a while now, and I'm finally going to have some equipment money soon... I saw one at a GA knife maker's guild meeting in Columbus that was water cooled, and I've wanted to get my hands on one ever since :D Are there any plans floating around the web somewhere, for sale or for free?

I made mine from a d.c. motor, controler, & disk.
Find something to bolt it down to, and something to mount the contoler to (could be the same thing). Order a disk from Rob Frink. Start ginding.

anyone know where to get a motor and controller that will work for this application (variable speed, reversible) that is reasonable priced or even used. I have considered purchasing the grinder from Rob but would really like to save some money if possible.

Thanks

John

Alrighty, thanks

I wasn't sure where to get the disk from.

He carries one that is completely flat, and one that has a 1 degree slope to it. I like the one 1 degree so the long blades don't catch the other side of the disk.

...and I like the flat one because you can't flat sand on a cone - even a 1 degree cone. :D

Rob!

Rob makes a good point. It's not really flat, but since I still hand finish, the hollow grind that that a 1 degree cone makes (about .0087" deep on a 1" wide blade, and .013" deep on a 1-1/2" blade) gets sanded flat in about 1 minute.
Get one of each, and live the good life.
