Putting together a Winter haversack kit

^ very true, cold weather opens up lots of food options that aren't viable during the summer
 
Thought id share something that has become a staple of all my packs especially in the winter. Pine resin. Great firestarter, anti microbial, can seal wounds, make torches,glue. I have mixed it with vaseline and put it on sheaths for a waterproofer. I just love the stuff.
 
Not sure if it's the same (similar for sure), we have Alpine Fir (called it piss fir in my logging days) that has rounded pockets of sap, stick the point of your knife into ones these and it oozes a very volatile fire starter. No idea if it has any medicinal value. Not sure of a good way to carry it either???
