Putting together an order for supplies...question on buffs and others.

I'm getting together an order for supplies and I'd like to order from 1 supplier or 2 if I have to, to keep shipping costs down.

I think my biggest question pertains to what buffs I need to get for this buffer I just ordered. Looking at TexasKnife.com I see they have 4 types:
-Sisal
-Loose Muslin
-Sewn Muslin
-Flannel/Jeweler's Buff

What should I get to get started? Should each type of rouge/compound used have it's own dedicated buff? I'm still doing a few kits to get started so I really only need buffs for finishing handle scales. When I step to the next level I will add what I need to do blade finishes.

What rouge/compounds should I get to start?

I also have a basic run down of what sand paper grits I need to get. Couple of questions though: 1) are shop rolls worth buying for handle finishing (and what grits if so)? and 2) are the 3M Polishing Sheets worth looking into?

I'll have more questions as I come to them, these are what Im curious about to start.

Also, who has the better prices to use as a supplier (in your opinion)?

Thanks for all the help!

When it comes to buffing wheels I use the Sewn Muslin the most followed by the Loose Muslin. The Sisal wheels are just to hard for me. I got my last wheels from Lee Valley.

I use the Green Chrome and the Pink Scratchless compounds the most.

As for Sandpaper on shop rolls I love them. I use the 1" wide 120, 240, and 400 the most. I got my shop rolls from MSC Industrial, they were having a big sale at the time.

I try to buy most of my supplies from Tracy Mikley at

http://www.usaknifemaker.com/store/

or http://www.popsknifesupplies.com/

now because they offer great support to knife makers.

Hope this helps.

i had GOOD dealings with usaknifemaker.com. the guy is great!
I've also dealt with premiumknifesupply.com. both of these aren't
really too expensive. u can buy really cheap buffing wheels from
premiumknife that fit on a drill. they've got 2 different rouges
also pretty cheap so u can experiment. u mite also want to consider
joining iknifecommunity. lots of makers with lots of experience. some
of them are ABS Mastersmiths. good luck!
