1/8 inch 1084 fg with 22 degree grind (11 per side). Brass, curly birch and elk antler. What do you guys think. Any criticism or comment is welcome. Thank you in advance MO.

I let my brother test the wood carving abilities and I think he went a little overboard.

And here is the very first leuku I made.

J

Here is one I made for a friend.

And a close up of the handle.

The work is beautiful! What grit did you take the finish too? Im not intimately familiar with Pukko and Leuku knives, but I do know they are Sami knives from Finland and Scandinavia. My only other comment would be that the grind seems very steep for an outdoor knife, i tend to try for included angles of about 40 on my outdoor knives. The scandi grind may make it more possible though. Great work!

The leuku handle got sanded to 600 grit then super glue finish. I then masked off the wood and antler and polished the brass on the buffer to mirror finish. The grind works good. They slice very well and are reasonably tough. I chopped through deer neck bone with the leuku and it showed only minute chipping. The blade was brought to shaving sharpness without any honing. I should have mentioned that I put a second bevel on all my scandi grinds.

Ahhh. I see. Beautiful work! How do you like these knife patterns compared to more western designed hunting knives like a buck knife?

Leuku and Puukko combination is my favorite set of blades. Leuku proved to be the favorite camp knife on my last hunting trip. At first everyone was like " What is that?" And then two days later I could not get it back. I actually have been using the Leuku in the kitchen for past four years and it excels at choping and slicing. I use Puukko as a boning knife, fishing knife and hunting knife. Here is the very first one I made and still use every day since I made it. This is the optimum blade just under four inches and handle is 4.5 inches because I have large hands. The wood was scrap piece of cherry.

Scandi grind wins in my book hands down
