Puukko for EDC question

Ron

Have you looked at the Brisa/Enzo Birk 75? Have carried one (in D2) for about 4 years - great EDC (along with my SAK Tinker).
Rich

Thanks Rick. Very nice looking. I'll pick one up to keep my Nilakka company

Which steel, grind, scales are you considering? As I said, mine is Scandi grind in D2 with Curly Birsh scales. I really like it. I'm thinking (only at that stage) of getting one in D2, Scandi grind, but with G10 Scales.

Rich,
I was also thinking birch with D2 scandi grind but then I saw the ironwood. It only comes with s30V flat grind. I’m still thinking it over but may end up with both

I carried a kellam wolverine quite frequently until recently (lost it out of a rusted out floorboard ). I think the biggest challenge in carrying something with a rounded handle is finding the right carry system. I found a horizontal kydex sheath to be the best solution for me, ymmv of course.

Both are nice. My preference is a Scandi grind as I find it easy to sharpen. Actually unless used A LOT neither one should require much sharpening. After about 4 years of use, my D2 Scandi has only needed a touch up honing once.

I agree. I’d prefer the Scandi grind

Found out the 75 Birk scales are interchangeable, so I will most likely get the D2 scandi Birch and then the ironwood scales separately.

in case the OP is still around

Nice work. I really like Helle blades, especially the laminated ones. Have several I've crafted myself. However, being Norwegian, they are "technically" not puukko (Finnish made). But IMHO. we can overlook that and enjoy fine Nordic knives also.
Rich;)

I definitely get it, a fat handled belt knife doesn't carry as comfortably for me because I like a sheath that doesn't move around a lot.

The suggestion to handle a Mora blade is a great idea, I've done it as well as different kinds of blades and it's a real fun relatively easy afternoon project.

If I can find what I want I love to do my best to make it.

Here's one Helle laminated blade I crafted in a sort of puukko-ish style:

Hickory n Steel: here's a Mora laminated blade I modded to a puukko-ish style.

I prefer some sort of hooked or bent hilt. Makes the knife easier to withdraw from sheath IMHO.
