Which Puukko Leuko combo would you get? So far I've looked solely on Ragnar's page. I want to get a set, rather than buy a bunch of random knives. Money is an issue, but I don't want a cheap set either.:D

Something from here:

Have had my eye on the Kellam's for soooo long. I'm a fiend for the Arctic Curly Birch, having that wood on some beautiful Finnish M-39 rifles... need a leukko to go with it someday.

Geeze, Andy, you make such great stuff. You should give it a whirl:) Your leatherwork is going to be every bit as good as what you'll get with one of those sets, and I can't imagine the knives being too hard to make. i guess getting the right steel, the heat treat, etc would be the hard part;)

Sarge et all oughta know who makes the best for the buck.

I have the Jarvenpa set from Ragnar and am very pleased. Can't beat the price.
Terry

Terry, do you have the 5619 or the 5618?

Yep, Jake, my idea is to get a set, then use them for ideas and patterns, then make some. I do want an official set, and, you know how it is, you gotta justify these knife purchases......... at least a little.

I'm with you mike. That curly birch is something else. I've got two blocks of it I ordered from Ragnar a while back. I gotta get on that...

Andy I second the motion. Kellam has nice Puukko blades and kits . First time I,ve seen the site . Won,t be the last .

Thanks Terry. Thats where I was leaning.

Andy I also have the 5629b and absolutely LOVE IT!!!! I got mine when they were $99.00.:p ;) :D

Dang ole ndn...;)

Its a good looking set. I GUESS I don't mind the extra $.

Andy, Ragnar is a friend, but I'd not mislead any friend just to benefit another. Ragnar carries the set you want priced at $125, Kellam knives carries the same set for $99.95. That's a price difference of $25. Ragnar's service and business acumen are hard to beat, but I've dealt with the Kellam folks before and know them to be good people also. Ragnar generally charges less for shipping, so compare carefully and choose for yourself.
A diligent search may turn up this knife set at a discounted price, but the two sources I can vouch for, and you can positively trust, are the two I've mentioned above.

Sarge, that's not fair. I saw you as the most recent poster ... and was all set to drool over a modest, jawdroppingly lovely Sarge-made leuko/pukko set.;)

When it comes to traditional Scandinavian knives, I humbly bow to my betters Tom. Still, I hate to dissapoint, so here's my latest puukko. 4 1/2" Scandi beveled blade, 4" handle of African pink ivory (a fascinating wood), with a heavy guage brass bolster cut from a brass pipe nipple. Sweet knife, as far as fixed blades go it has become my new favorite for carry/use. (as usual, please forgive my crude photography, I am a neanderthal playing with fire) :o

That handle looks comfortable indeed. Swelling as it does, it makes it look like the tip rises a bit above the line of the back ... a slightly trailing point. Is that so, or just my eyes playing tricks? Nice graceful curve to the tip, in any event.

Not a trailing point, just my sloppy camera work distorting things a bit. The spine is straight all the way to the point. The handle is one of my favorite traditional designs, tapering at each end, with the fattest part of the swell just a bit back of center. It's somewhat oval in cross section and tapers towards each end in thickness as well. Some call this a "spindle" style (think Mora knife), all I know is it provides a very comfortable and secure grip, with no need of bells or whistles.

yeah, well he said a brass nipple.

There's a saying up here about cold weather and brass monkeys, but the saying doesn't refer to their nipples...:D

Those pipe fittings sure make nice ferrules don't they. On the Bolo handle I used 1" copper pipe. I couldn't believe how thick the walls were on that size pipe. Dang.
