SOLD

Up for sale is my Veikko Hakkarainen Kullervo.

This blade has very little use on it. I've carved a few notches and feather sticks before stropping it up.

The sheath has been oiled (it can still be dyed if you so wish), and the belt loop was replaced with oil tan as the original loop was far too stiff to function properly.

This will also include the original wooden box.

$195 USD shipped and insured. PayPal gift/ff preferred. No trades.

These are older pictures (when we last had snow), but it is in exactly the same condition.

And here are a couple pics of it next to my Tuohisarvi...

I just want to say that this is a very good puukko.

I've owned one for several years. The handle is perfectly shaped. Birch bark gives it a very good grip (even when wet) and a velvety feel. The blade is of good quality carbon steel, hand forged and tempered with skill. It can be sharpened almost razor sharp and doesn't chip easily. In fact it feels very rugged and I've never managed to chip mine even when working with very hard wood or batoning with it.

I think that the forward bolster (hela) is intentionally thicker in order to move the CoG forward, which gives this puukko a very good balance (it stays level when balanced on two foremost fingers.)

It's hard to find negative things about this puukko, but I have few nitpicks. While the sheath is fine overall with a good click it has a plastic last (lesti) inside. I would have expected one made out of wood. Also I personally prefer blades with around 2/3 bevel for this thickness as I feel they give slightly less resistance when carving, but maybe that would compromise some of the blade's strength.

Here's some info about the blacksmith that made it:
