C'mon people, let's see your puukkos. Vintage, custom, production. I am home laid up and need a knife fix!

Christian, I know you are the man!

Not really traditional, but the only puuko I have.

IIRC I got this in the 60's...

Those new Spyderco puukkos look great. I heard from a shop owner about hot spots on the models he saw at SHOT. What are your thoughts on those? Looks like a really nice knife.

I have both the reg and small Hackman Tapio Wirkallas, great knives, had a chance to get the balisong and didn't.

It wasn't called a balisong at the time. IIRC they referred to it as a "folding Puukko".

Frank, that fixed blade Puukko, it looks just like one that I remember seeing many years ago...I think I remember it being offered by a large company that sold specialty tools etc.
Can't remember the name right now, can you tell me what the stamps/ etching say...i still regret not grabbing one back then...

I've used it a bit, and I haven't had any problems with that. I'm not totally convinced that S30V has the toughness to handle a zero grind, though. Or maybe it's just our local hardwoods.

Yes. Got them both from that company which specialized in mail order woodworking tools. I don't remember the name either. Used to get the catalogs.

No, I don't think that's the name Jack and I are trying to think of. There was a seller of high end woodworking hardware. They sold by catalog. They did not make the knives. I bought both those from that catalog.

Could be. Can't always remember which decade. Tend to think it was before the 80's though. Got married in '83 and was dirt poor with no money for knives for quite a while.

Hard to go wrong with that. Pekka Tuominen is one of the top puukko makers in Finland. Spyderco chose well.

Is it hard keeping such a wear resistant steel properly sharpened?

Those Wirkkala puukkos were also sold here in the U.S. through Brookstone.

Very nice knife! Does Spyderco still make these? If they do I need to get one.

Carl, that is actually Spyderco TradeMark hole... Go Figures what modern companies do when they get traditional designs O.o Atleast no combo edge :D

I had such hopes for the Spyderco Puukko, just wish they had used a different steel. S30V is known for being chippy & I can't see it being a good choice with a Scandinavian edge. I had hoped they'd use 01 steel like the Bushcrafter. The other thing that killed it for me is the $200 price. Around that range, or a little more, and I can get a custom. All that aside, it looks & feels great in-hand, and being a Spyderco fan, it tempts me.
