Xmas rush being what it is, the only Xmas Goody to arrive in time (besides the lump of coal) was the Puuko Uncle put up on special recently.
This is one very fine field/utility knife. Uncle seperated the single and double bevel blades as "single" and "traditional", but both grinds are popular on the Wharncliffe style blade. I wound up with a double bevel, and this is a whittling, slicing, dicing, useful for everything but skinning knife. My test file skipped along the entire edge, and didn't want to bite on the spine. I am guessing the edge at 58-60 and the spine only slighty less. The spine is 3/16", blade is 4 1/8", handle 4 3/8". It shows 4 1/2 oz. on my cantankerous scale, but feels heavier in the hand. The horn scales are shaped for firm control, and it is needed - this puppy shaved right out of the box. It could easily cut its' way out of the sheath, and a new sheath is on paper now. Now that we know the models are at BirGorkha, anyone wanting a "super karda" for camping or hiking knows where you can find a GOOD one :D
 
Bro both the Kumar Karda and JKM-1 are great buys. I saw the others the other day, but didn't pay attention that close. A Wharncliffe Blade you say?!?!?!?!?!?:)

We have talked about the JKM-1's and Kumar Karda's and putting a single edge bevel on them.
When we had the chonvention here at Catoosa Dave and everyone got to check out my single edged puukko's out.
Dave was impressed enough that he did his when he got back home and got a diamond hone.
Not only is the single edge bevel impressively sharp I think the pattern from putting the edge on adds to the beauty and mysticism of the knife.
Especially if you do the old timey continuious circle sharpening on it.
Makes it look almost engine turned!!!!!!!!!:D

I got my single Bevel one, It is great. Just like Wal said, I got it all honed up and it cut it's way out of the sheath. Let me know what you come up with Wal.

The pattern is just on kraft paper at this point. It is a standard pouch, traditional except that it is closed/stitched along the spine instead of along the edge side of the sheath. I'm looking for some approxomately 1/8" thick nylon, or cut-resistant plastic for a liner, against the edge. The leather I have on hand, even heavily waxed and compressed, won't make a good enough welt to keep this baby inside for long. This is one of the few times I really wish I could post pics.
 
I don't like that dangler pouch the sarkis make for these little knives. They don't hold the knives well and they like to get cut up. But, I need a model to improve the design. I'm afraid if I try to get the change made verbally I'll end up with something worse.
