I was just trying to figure out if it was possible to make a knife vise from PVC... I'm not as experienced or knowledgeable as most on this forum so I figured I pose this question to you guys.

Let me know if you've tried it, would try it, how you would try it and so on. Or maybe this is just a bad idea all together and someone can tell me why lol

My thoughts: Find a way to mount a Tee and buy a section of pipe a size under that to fit in it. Then drill through the tee and clamp the pipe in place. Then put in place a floating vise made of micarta or something like that in the pipe. Should function like a normal knife vise but at a fraction of the cost.

You might be able to make something like that and then brake it pretty soon after.
I don´t think PVC will hold up to the wear.
Invest your time and effort in steel :)

It works pretty good. I have one made from 2" PVC that I use to do Tsukamaki. I'll try and shoot a photo tonight.

The way you mounted it seems to be a lot simpler then whatever I was trying to come up with. Thanks Stacy

I still haven't got a chance to take a photo, but the way it works is the tubing has a collar on the end. There are spacer strips of wood, and tapered wedges that go on each side of the blade or handle from the other end. A few taps with a mallet and the knife is locked in tight. The tube sits on a cradle and is held down snug with bungee cords.
