PWYP VII “Practice What You Preach”

April 10th-13th , 2008

Chestnut Mountain, McDowell Co. North Carolina

“Practice What You Preach” is an annual camping trip held in the foothills of NC. The purpose is for like minded individuals to meet and share information on outdoor survival.
The location is on private property in McDowell Co. NC. The site is located just off Hwy. 221 about half way between Rutherfordton and Marion, NC. (maps and directions will follow) There are NO facilities on the property. No electricity, only natural water (streams and small pond), and yes, this year three porta-johns!
Camping will be in what ever fashion you prefer (my way of saying, “Every man or Woman For Themselves!”) Most in the past have used tents or tarps. Meals will be up to the individuals. We will provide the location, we will set up a few educational programs, and we will even throw in a few “fun” contest. All else is up to the individuals attending. The gate will open at noon on Thursday the 10th.
Men, Women, and Children (and dogs) are all welcome. If it looks as if there will be enough kids attending, we will try to set up a class or two just for them. If you bring children or dogs, they are your responsibility and should not be unattended at any time.
As in years past, we will share the cost of expenses. The porta-johns and liability insurance will run about $20.00 per adult. To sign up for the weekend you must download the liability release (cut and paste) and mail it to my studio along with your portion of the cost. The release will give me all of your contact information, medical conditions etc. Print it off on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet and print so I can read it. Last year we had seventy people attending and I will not go much over that. Please sign up early so I can judge when to cut it off.
As in years past, we plan to draw on the skills of several of those attending to help us put together classes for everyone’s benefit. In fact there may be more to do than time to do it in. A schedule will be posted on the forums and at the campsite.
The release form and a set of rules are attached to this thread. Please read both. As from the beginning, all are welcome! Outdoor expert or the newest beginner, you’ll learn something. Most of all, you’ll see old friends and meet new ones. There are no strangers on Chestnut Mountain!
REMEMBER
Marty Simon will be offering a class prior to PWYP this year. You can contact him for more information.

Hate to say it son, but you would have to have one of your parents come along. Convince them to make it a family outting.
