Pyroceram on a Coote...?

Just wondering if anyone has used the pyroceram on a
coote grinder, and what experiences you guys have had with using it..?

Thanks.

Got it on mine, and I love it. When I ordered it I told them I was going to put a 1/4" hardened steel plate on the platen so they went ahead and drilled two more platen holes a 1/4" back from the first two.

When I finaly wore both sides of the platen out I just moved it back 1/4" and used JB weld to hold the pyroceram on. I did rough up one side of it with some sand paper. It's got some cracks in it now but you cant feel them and it's still flat and true.

Hey Steve,

I'm still happy with mine that I got from you for my Coote. I have mine attached with epoxy (Loctite brand) and it's still solid and shows no noticable wear.

Need another bar of it for my KMG horizontal edge grinder. Send me a 2 X 11 1/2 inches. If it has to be special cut do it. Email me with the total. If you still have my address at zip 25143 send it. If not ask for it when you email me. I can pay ahead or as we did the last time. Please advise. Thanks again.

EDIT: One great after effect of using it on the Coote is that it raises the belt high enough out of line with the drive wheel to enable tapering tangs. (On the Coote the drive wheel is the wheel platen). Without that the drive wheel would grind into the blade as you try to taper the tang.

Ok, good information guys. The reason I ask is because I've had someone contact me wondering what other coote users had to do to get it mounted. He says they only have about 1/8in. between the steel platen and the work rest with no adjustment, that would allow mounting of the glass.
I'm not familiar with these machines and do appreciate your input here. Thanks again.

FWIW,

Someone here suggested using plain old scotch brand 2 sided pressure tape. I tried it. Just 3 strips has held my glass on for months now. If the fool thing ever wears out it should be easy to replace.

Steve, I just finally put the pyro that I bought from you a long time ago on my coote. I did not put the table on yet but I figure that I can take the table face off, mount the table frame. (What ever you want to call it :D) and then set table un screwed on the frame and sand it down till the screw holes line up. Don't know that it will work but that thin piece of metal that is the table plate should be real easy to replace with something different if I mess up. I can take some pictures of the table and everything if you like?

Here are a few quick pics. I used jb weld btw. :D
