Pyroceram platen question

It's a really pretty spark - reminiscent of the lights during some of those old, fondly remembered 70s days and nights... :D

I think I'll take Dan's advice and try grounding the blade. Thanks Dan, sounds good.

I see this static issue crop up every winter.lol I notice static on mine is worse in the winter, but my grinder is just about 2ft from a huge wood furnace. My shop and house are zap hazards due to the dry air from the wood heat. That's why the one in a flooded basement don't zap..moisture in the air. I can minimize zapping in the shop by hosing the floor down, or drying a load of laundry in the nearby laundry room...thus adding humidity. I've also used a ground wire with clips, clipping one end to the grinder base and the other end clipped to one of my bracelets, or better yet tucked in the top of my trousers (this frees my hands a bit more). I've also heard of some using something like a dog chain or something..tucking the chain in back of trousers and left to touch the ground.
Have also heard of some using jb to attach the platen while letting a bit of it come around the edge nearing the belt to transfer the discharge.
More often than not I just take the heel of my hand and tap the frame of the grinder to discharge every little bit before it builds to hair curling levels.
Personally I like the sound of the simplicity of spraying the back of the belt with static guard.

How about some input here on how the platens are holding up under heavy use.
I know Busse have some that I suspect see heavy use, but havent heard back from them on durability.
I am looking into supplying the platens from other materials also, but much may depend on the feedback I see here. Thanks guys.

All those clips and wire connection stuff, man I hope you don't walk away from you grinder and forget to disconect. By the way if the shock makes you want to hang on and not jerk your hand away, you have an electrial problem and not static electricity giving you the shock. Shut down your equipment and correct the problem or you may see what a real problem can be. Frank

some guys say that the connecting wrist clip wont work, but mine did .

I was really haveing some trouble due to the shocks,,,not only was there the SNAP to deal with, there was the way I found myself aleways thinking of the next Snap coming...

this was starting to get in my way,,,always thinking of the Snap and not what i was doing to the knife...

My wire connected to the grinder and table leg did the trick,,,

yes, it was a pain to always connect and unconnect each time,,,but its not that bad...
