Hi Guys,

Well, we're usually too cheap to go out and buy fireworks, so it's a 4th of July tradition in the Patton household to improvise ways to blow things up. This year, we decided to try something a friend told us about years ago.

I'll let this video clip explain:

And here's the big kaboom. This is actually the second explosion. I'll upload the first one later. They both have their merits.

I suggest you freeze the video, and go through it frame by frame, if you can. It's pretty cool. Also, you really want to watch this with a good sound system. :D

These clips are pretty big, so if you're using dial-up, forget it.

Oops, I somehow got the file names goofed up, but I've got them in order at least now...

oxy/acetylene is one of hose thing I avoid like the plague. it to dangerous for my taste, big bang though ;)

that was great!!!! video quality was on. just the right mixture of adventure and stupidity... i give that a 9.8 and eagerly look foward to the next installment of backyard ballistics:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Oh my, I wonder if I still have those videos on the memory card... You would be amazed what you can do with cannon fuse, plastic bottles, 3000 match heads, black powder, remote detonators, craft paper, KNO3(potassium nitrate), and sugar. Add two rednecks and a hippy... stir well then bake it! Recipe for disaster. :D

Very nice, you would fit right in up here.

The first time I witnessed this in person was in an enclosed shop. The bag was MUCH smaller (it was one of those sleeves that holds styro coffee cups and only about a third of the whole bag). The ignition source was shooting sparks from an angle grinder. I can't imagine how loud that bang of yours was. I did see the frame with the bright orange fire. SWEET.

I hope you all had hearing protection.!! I hope the folks "next door" were OK with it.

I used to work with a guy who's dad was doing this with those large plastic ice bags you get from the store (20lb when full of ice). They were putting an old cast iron bath tub over the bag and then igniting it and launching the tub into the air. The Sheriff showed up and told them to stop. HEHE The Sheriff knew it was them because they were the only ones in a 2 mile radius that didn't call it in.:D:D

Be safe!!

i didnt film mine but it was a neat smoke ring that went about 40' up. i fired off my cannon with a good load of pyrodex and newspaper. a friend has a cast stainless cannon that i shot off one 4th at a friends. it was heard over 3 1/2 miles away by a friend twice. once on the phone and then while standing outside listening for it. 3/4# of pyrodex makes for a big boom.

that is awsome I'm going to have to burn off my eyebrows trying that, in slow motion you can see how much energy it puts into the board

I love the car alarm in the distance. :D

Reminds me of college prank (i.e., stupidity). We had experiment with Cremora, you know the powdered creamer for coffee. We always messed around in the dining hall sprinkling small packets and then lighting them. This led us to the grand idea of getting a large container of the stuff and lighting it. So we buy the Cremora, and yours truly gets the task of sprinkling it from the third floor stairwell, while by accomplice in crime stood at the bottom with a lighter turned up to high flame. Well nothing is happening except his arm getting covered in Cremora. So he says, " sprinkling it faster." With those fateful words, I dump a whole bunch down the stairwell. All I remember is seeing a large ball of flame shooting up towards me. Seconds later I smell burning hair. Yup, burned my eyebrows nearly clean off, my hair, etc. We ran like rabbits after that one. This past January I met up with my roommate 23 years after that event, and we still laughed our asses off. :D

More proof why I dont use Pyrodex in my black powder guns; burns too slow. If that had been 2 or 3 FG black powder it would have been to the bag in flash, literally. Nice bang from the gas!
