My question is in regards to what vacuum pump you guys are using. Any of you using a venturi style with compressed air? There are a couple that are rated for up to 28" and only need anywhere from 4 to 7 SCFM to operate, and around 60 to 120 sec to get one cubic foot down to 27-28". The price is fairly inexpensive compared to some other pumps. Check this link out. I was looking at the JS150M for $107. If you scroll down there is a couple charts with specs.

I figure you do not have to worry so much about the vapors messing up the venturi since there are no moving parts, and you can flush it out with solvent if there was an "accident".

I know that some folks are building their own pumps out of fridge compressors, but I am not inclined to build that right now.

Also, what are you using for vacuum chambers?

I Use a Harbor Freight venturi style vacuum. It reaches 28-29" and only cost $7. Works great with the Nelsonite I got from Darren Ellis.

A C, I had seen another version of that compressor for like $27 but the HF one is cheaper! I had also been looking into Nelsonite, and found another wood stabilizer that does the same thing as Nelsonite with less naptha in it. check out this link. I am thinking about tryin this stuff.

One thing I did notice about the mityvac models is they have evacuator models with tanks built in for removing motor oil. I could use one of those models so there would be no need for a seperate vacuum chamber, not to mention that they have drains on the bottom.

Gixxer,

Cool site. Will definitely remeber for in the future. I only use the Nelsonite on harder woods that doesn't need pro stabilization. I did some mequite and pink ivory and it came out good so far. Have not finished them yet.. I was amazed that it only took one treatment. I put them back into the vacuum after the first was dried and no bubbles. I have tried many different products and none work like the nelsonite. If the resolute works as well it may be the way to go. Much cheaper.
