In light of the great demand for BM 42's, and the resurging popularity of the balisong (butterfly knife), I was wondering if any mfgrs. were toying with the idea of creating a competative option to the BM? There has been a good interest shown in the blade discussion area, the bali forum, and in a possibly poorly placed debate over at the BM forum. There is quite apperently a market, especially for those companies catering to an online buying pool. So, what do you think?

Why should REKAT, or Spyderco (I see that you asked the same question in their forum), go to the trouble of making a knife that is illegal in almost every jurisdiction in the country and which would, in the bargain, create a public relations nightmare for them?

Bailsongs actually are legal in many states, and, depending on local laws, may or may not fall under the fedral def. of the switchblade law depending on local jurisdiction. They are also open to those outside of the US. In addition, I'd like to point out that while in many places they are illigal to carry, they are legal to own and collect.

Actually, the Sifu is illigal all over the place due simply to its blade length. If you read the fedral swithblade law, even Spyderco's could be read as switchblades (open and lock with one hand due to centrifigal motion or innurtia).

Lastly, bonafide switchblades, which are illegal all over the place are still produced by MT, BM, Paragon, Dalton, S&W, etc., etc., ect. and still doing very well.

I can't address your PR nightmare question because i'm not sure were it is founded. BM has no such PR problem (at least not for that reason), and I don't see how adding a bali to the line up will tarnish the image of a company that produces fighting and defensive knives already. The bali is simply another way to open your blade one handed. Hope that helps some.

Respectfully, E.

Thank you. Pay attention to James Mattis's comment. It seems to make my case pretty clear. It also appears there was, in that thread, support by most of the people who responded, except you. Fare enough, you don't like them or think they are a good idea and i can respect that. I would, however, like to hear other peoples opinions on the matter. I appreciate your comments, but would like to hear what other supporters of REKAT think. Just as an opinion pole, my post is obviously not going to be changing worlds here. If you personnaly would like to discuss the idea, I would love too in personal emails (saves server space). Thanks again for your input.
