Quality 1x6 stones for the money

Then what is your solution. Get ripped off with much less quality stones? Doesn’t make sense to me. Just saying.
Well that was kind of the point for which I created the thread. I'd rather not get ripped off on either end. Wondering if there are those using hapstone/edge pro style stones and getting good bang for their buck.

I tried a couple of the cheap knock off systems just to see if they worked for me before committing to the original, did not want to spend money only to find i did not like them or were not for me. With these systems came the cheap stones, and i found nothing wrong with them, they all came flat, and i got really good results with them, how long they last for is another thing, but they have held up so far. So to answer your question, me personally have got good bang for my buck with the cheap clones, i have invested in some good stones after getting good results with the cheap ones, have not had a chance to use them yet, but i would expect really good results on my experience with the clones. Hope this helps, to sum it up, i got really good bang for my buck with the cheap ones.

CKTG and Gritomatic both sell basic diamond plates, mounted on an edge pro base. They are a single layer of diamonds electroplated to a steel plate. They are inexpensive, and at least the CKTG ones I have work well. I see no reason that Gritomatic's wouldn't work just as well. Then there are the diamond matrix stones. They have a bonding material filled with diamond grains. As you wear away the bonding material you will expose new diamonds. They are said to give better feedback, and to last longer. But they are more complicated to produce, so cost quite a bit more. I haven't used them so can't say which is better.

O.B.

I have read nothing but good reports about them. There is also the cheaper venev ones, same construction, and only good reports about them as well.

Not the same, similar, since each uses their own proprietary bonding methodology, and size, range and quality of diamonds.

I will give each of those diamond plates a look that might be a cost effective solution in the 1x6 format. Thinking I could get away with some lower grit SIC stones to set the edge and then have diamonds in the 600-1200 range as honing and finishing stones.

You are right, i stand corrected. I need to concentrate more when posting.
No worries. Some of us are just more pedantic than others...but sometimes it actually matters. (Usually my wife's eye roll let's me know when it doesn't.)

I agree, this is how misinformation gets out there. I made a broad sweeping statement, i should have been more pedantic, and given my opinion with more accuracy.

OCB Venev's, best value diamond/cbn, Boride CS-HD, best value AlOx/SiC. CS-HDs are SiC. Cheap, and good performance on all but the highest wear resistance steels.
