I've thought about it before, particularly when I was new in the hobby and did buy a few knives (Benchmade/Spyderco) from Amazon, and they seemed to have less out-of-the-box sharpness than examples from knife dealers. In the end though, it was probably just coincidence, and it just doesn't make sense from a QC/manufacturing point of view for most companies.
These days I never buy knives from Amazon anyway. There are just too many great dealers that support the hobby, have excellent customer service, quick shipping, peace of mind in regards to counterfeits, and competitive pricing. I'll gladly drop a few extra bones to support one of them, and in some instances when you factor in sales tax Amazon isn't even cheaper.
On an unrelated note, I'd swear that our current oven browns better when the light is on. I know it can't be the actual case, and that it's just my imagination, but I still turn that mofo on every time I cook
. I'm not sure why that comes to mind here other than to say, yeah, go with your gut and don't buy knives from Amazon either way if you can help it.
