Quality folder suggestions?

Add $50.00 bucks and buy a Strider AR. It eats all the other folders for lunch:) Seriously, I just got one and it is the most overbuilt, bad ass knife I have ever used. A serious tool.

Well, I recommend you get a Greco folder - if he still has any. I have a Falcon and Whisper folder, and they are ferociously stout. The handle is a black-coated steel and the blade is 8670, which is used in industrial applications as a steel cutter and in sawmill blades. Mine holds an edge well and has the best pivot system I've yet come across in a folder. These knives are amazingly simple - part of the handle becomes the lock - but they are extremely stout. And, for an additional $9, you can get a repair kit that comes with all of the knife's parts, save a new blade and handle. You can basically rebuild the knife completely. I don't know what John has got left, but you can see his stuff here:

John is a great guy to work with and his knives, at least for me, have been wonderful. One caveat - the folders are on the "ugly" side but, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the hand of the knife user!

if you really want either clip or tanto and nothing else, then you might want to check out the folder line-up of MOD (masters of defense). the 875-series is particularly nice. other recommendable brands would be Benchmade and several others

if you can wave the blade-point design preference then get an AMK Sere 2000, no competition for its price whatsoever.

other sugg's would be a TOPS CQT 711/747 or a (Buck-)Strider, but those knives would probably not fit your 'not too heavy' criterium

I like the Sebenza, the 710, and the 722......

If you want to pry, get an Atwood Prybaby, or a Pocketwrench II.....

A search on the forums will yeild a lot of info on either..

I carry a Pocketwrench II myself.....5 bucks to save my folder? You bet!:D

I reserve my $5 "Made in China" special for tasks such as prying, unscrewing, etc.
