Quality Folders, help please.

All the Benchmades I've handled were liqiud smooth. All the Spydercos I've handled locked up like a vault. Al Mar makes good stuff (I have yet to handle the SERE, but have heard nothing but good things about it). The past two years I've carrying a CRKT M-16-03Z. Not the best blade steel, but far from the worst. The Carson flipper is what drew me to the knife. Very quick. Very tough knife. I've used it hard and abused it on occasion just to see what it could do. Before that I carried a Gerber EZ-Out. Surprisingly tough knife. If you haven't tried a Kershaw yet, give one a shot. My wife has carried her Blackout for about three years. Not a prybar but a great slicer. And if you get the Flash, please post your impression of it. I've kinda been eyeing one too.

The Flash II I mentioned my one son and I have is with the Zytel Handle. I'm sure that the aluminum handle SOG FLASH II would or is even nicer.....you can't go wrong with the price of these.

There are alot more great knives for under a 100 bucks out there, too, like many have mentioned here....but once you have been biten with the bug, you'll be back for more. If like alot of us here, that 100 dollar limit will eventually rise to $200, and so on. Watch out for that nasty bug!

I wasn't so lucky, that bug struck me! :)

RON....didn't know you are gone from SOG! Hope everything goes well for you and a new adventure should be fun for you, I hope! ;)

Hi,

Today i got to go to my local knife shop. I checked out S&W, Emerson, Kershaw, Benchmade, CRT, and Spyderco.

S&W: I don't think im gonna be getting a S&W as i already have one.

Emerson: I may get an emerson, i really liked how they felt and how they looked.

Kershaw: For a assisted opening knife i think ill probably go with a Kershaw over the Flash. Any recommendations on them?

Benchmade: I really like the Benchmades a lot too, they seemed to have the stiffest blade, they looked pretty cool, they felt good, and the owner of the store gave them great praise over the others.

CRT: CRT, these knives seemed like they were the cheapest way to go with a knife. The quality seemed pretty decent though. I don't think ill go with any of these because they didn't seem as good.

Spyderco: These knives seemed to tie with Benchmade. They felt good and worked well. My only gripe is the hole in the blade for opening. Other than that great knives.

They didn't have any SOG's there except for a multitool. So i can't really say much for these. The owner said that these were really nice knives but the Flash isn't a good knife.

Anyways am i way of base with all of these? Did i forget to look at any big knife brands.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sting.

Sting,

When I first started out with knives I had a very hard time with the Spyder-hole also, but if you give it a little time, you'd be surprised how easily you can work them holes.

Just thought I'd mention it...

I think ill eventually pick one up.

Right now im concentrating on getting a Kershaw Leek. The least expensive one ive found so far is from New Graham for $40.72. 5th down in think.

Then on Knife works i found one for $41.99.

And then on One stop knife shop i found one for $43.99.

Which is the best place to get it?

I have not ordered from the other two, but New Graham would be hard to beat. I've called to order a knife and Mike's had it in the mail that afternoon. MUCH quicker than anyone else I've ordered from.

Sting:
I bought my Leek from Roger at KnifeWorks. Knife arrived quickly, all sealed up in the factory package. Though there was a factory defect (very unusual), Roger at KnifeWorks took it back and sent me a replacement - - didn't have to mess with sending it to Kershaw. That's good service in my book.

I order almost all my knives from Roger at KnifeWorks now.

Remember to compare what other dealers are charging for shipping too. Sometimes the lowest priced item ends up costing a lot more with shipping.

Good luck.
