Quality issue or OCD?

IMO , every knife should come fully functional , unless otherwise noted in sales ad .

"Factory edge " should not mean needs work !

Goes double for pricey ones . Just lazy , poor QC .

I've had knives with similar edges from ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade, and cold steel. CRK and spartan edges seem to be better done.

Both.

1. You'd expect past the gas station price bracket knives to be well sharpened, much less at MKM pricing.
2. You'll likely reprofile that edge sooner or later anyway, so there's no point in obsessing over factory edges.

I rarely pay attention to a factory edge, unless its really mangled a'la B*nchmade or well enough to where I don't actually need to reprofile. The latter is very rare, and it's almost all Microtechs and Taichung Spydercos.

Both my CRKs had the same tip as OP, my first ever CRK (Inkosi) was so poorly sharpened towards the tip, the last 2-3mm were actually dull. I immediately went to town on them with the KME.

I’d prefer a wonky edge I can fix than one that has been over ground missing too much material. That cant be fixed.

Yes I to indulge myself in that "should dream" . . .
What ever you do, DO NOT buy /collect Case knives then.
It's too late for me. I have around a hundred of them; over twenty full size Trappers alone (one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE USERS).
I just bought two identical Case Swell Center Jacks in black delrin ; will be cutting off one blade from each, one short blade and one long.

My point is maybe one or two of those dozens and dozens of "superior" Made in 'murka products had a passable point on the blade, ALL OF THE OTHERS had badly rounded over points, over ground edges (not as bad as Buck though (I still love and buy Buck ) . . . and ALL of the Case edges were badly durred and rolled over / unusable out of the box. Some of the Case knives >$200 such as the Abalone handled ones.

I have a saying : when I buy a tool I, personally, consider it a blank and I take it home and make something useful out of it .
Keeps my level of disappointment down.
I buy SnapOn by the way and have had issues there as well.
I prefer Proto now, ironically that was what my Dad used some sixty years ago.

CRK . . .seem to be better done.
I bought and still have one CRK.
My test for an edge I put on one of my knives, my edge if you will, is if I can cut a continuous curl off the end of one of my fingernails all the way across then I am satisfied.
The brand new CRK I bought passed my test out of the box first try.
Blew me away ! ! !
