Can anyone recommend someone who makes a top quality 'period correct', 19th century coffin handled bowie?
Any help is appreciated. :)

What's the price range? Custom or Production? If production, your best bet is to find one of the old Hanwei Horse-Gator Coffin handles that came out in the mid 2000's. Custom, I've always liked Henry, Charles Weiss, Roger Green, and Harvey Dean. Daniel Osterman makes great ones, but just in miniature :). A fellow that's impressed me lately is http://www.banfieldblades.com/ , he's done a lot of historical reproductions lately, and they been coming out top notch.

Also PJ Tomes was no slouch in the reproduction field, but I'm not sure if he ever did big Coffin handles.

Bark River make the Rogue as their version of the guardless coffinhandled bowie.

Price I'm flexable.
Custom perferred but the only trouble with custom is the time to make combined with back logs.
I was hoping to find a custom quality one that maybe the maker had a couple of in stock so it would be available now.
I was thinking of one with maybe an early western/native American flare.

Browse through the Custom and Handmade subforum. Do some searches and review Coop's photo gallery, too. Check the various on-line custom sellers if you can't wait. Expect to pay $1,000+/- and up, so take your time and savor it. There must be some production knives through period reproduction suppliers if you search enough.

I'll keep looking and maybe a maker just might see this post and have what I'm looking for. :eagerness:
