Im thinking of buying either a surface grinder or an attachment for my 2x72. Does anyone have any pics of what kind of surface finish I could expect with this? Can the belt type leave a nice 400 grit finish? If all it will do is flatten things is really not worth it for me, but if it can progress a few grits worth of sanding on the flats I may give it a try.

thanks
Rod

i have seen at TruGrit them take a blade up to mirror polish with their BurrKing surface grinder attachment

The problem is the belt seam. It will leave waves on the surface. Now you can take it to a high grit and do straight pulls until it’s smooth. There are also some things you can do to alleviate the issue. You can take a diamond abrasive sponge and remove all the grit right where the seam is. Then there won’t be any abrasion happening with that elevated portion of the belt. Another option is to use a Trizac gator belt with a structured abrasive. The grit on those belts is built up real high on the belt and there isn’t really an issue.

FYI I have the Wuertz Machine KMG surface grinder attachment. I had issues with the waves but after a few talks with Travis, we got it figured out just fine. Still, you’re gonna get a lot better finish from a stone surface grinder I think. I have two I’m building up right now and will soon know for sure.
