quality of g10 for knife scales

ty for the honest advice. I could grind or file it out but I think it would be to thin. as this was only 1/8th material. its a lil neck knife. I just use it in the shop so I wasn't to worried about finishing it to much.

you are correct about finishing it tho. round wood is so easy to finish. chunk it in the lath and turn it on take to 1000. apply clear coat wet sand to 3000. polish and wax your done lol. all this hand sanding sucks lol.

heres one I actually finished to a decent satin finish. its not perfect either but better. I always welcome tips as I know nothing about finishing flat objects and not clearcoating them lol. this one I hand sanded the handle to 1000 grit. then put two coats of some cue sealer on it to test out. sanded that with 1000 then polished and put some synthetic gun stock oil on it. turned out ok I guess.

***Nathan- THREE junked-out 4'X8' sheets?!?!? Yikes!!! :(

More than that actually. Two 1/4" sheets, a 3/8" sheet and some 12X36 blocks of some really thick stuff, ~2" if I recall. Some ended up getting used to build pallets and shipping crates and the thick bits were made into sacrificial sub plates and vacuum tables etc. So it mostly wasn't thrown away. But yeah, since I'd had most of it converted into 12X24 sheets I couldn't return it so an entire load of phenolic couldn't be used for what I bought it for.

...It was about this time that I became fanatical about knowing where my raw materials come from...

Ive seen quality issues with micarta before but not really with G10 but Ive always ordered it from reputable suppliers. Ive had micarta with voids and color issues..Uneven color was the worst problem..

man that sucks bad Nathan. I will defiantly try aks for my next order I want to try that 1080+ out anyways.
