Wow!!
Thanks for the link. I found the knife right away. It's a 144UH
I am surprised that the knife isn't stamped with that marking. As I said earlier, it is marked: Schrade+ USA LTD.
I will work on the brass a little to see if I can get the buff marks out.
Thanks a lot w5rwu.

The last Schrade I bought was 7 years ago at Walmart. It was a 12OT single
blade pocketknife. The price was an incredible $9.99 for a traditional, American
made knife. Recently I examined the Chinese made Schrade (0nly through the
packaging) and I instantly noticed that the nickel silver bolsters weren't as
clear and bright as the American made ones. It also was priced at $12.99! So
much for Chinese economy.

I picked up a 897 on ebay by mistake once. It's quality is okay. The deal with me is this. It's a matter of principal. IF, they were as high quality as the US made I still would not buy them. The knife is a Taylor, not a Shrade. It irritates the shit out of me to see the knife even use Schrades name. Maybe I am overstepping here but I think that is why a lot of people who collect US Schrade get riled up over the Taylor knives. Just an observation though.

I was in a Tractor Supply store a few days ago and examined some of the Taylor Schrades they had in stock. Overall, I thought the workmanship was much worse than the real USA made Schrades I've bought over the years. My wife and I both noticed that on most, the scales didn't meet up with the bolsters at all. I also noticed large gaps between the liners and backsprings. These were all priced higher than what I used to pay for my real USA made Schrades that have far fewer of these defects. My wife noticed a Taylor Schrade knife in cigar box packaging that had Walden NY largely printed all over it. She asked me if they were made in New York. I just shook my head no and said "China." She looked puzzled. I just replied "money making scheme."

Couldnt agree more tube guy,Taylor should have presented them all with spectacles before presenting them with the contract to make the items designed to look like real knives. The rarest Taylor Chirade knife item that will undoubtedly become a valuable collector will be a "Second" as I dont believe any will exist. What a doozie it would have to be to fail their """quawwity contrwwow".I bought a sheephorn stockman and sowbelly to check out and the sheephorn had either continued to grow in the box or no eyes with spectacles had ever inspected. The sheephorn was coming out to greet me at right angles from the scale which would have ripped a pocket if you had dare place it in there plus whatever other grief it could do down there! Match up to liners was pathetic.I dont know about the steel used as I will never use them however any contractor who could send these off in a box wouldnt have much regard for the inherant quality of the knife IMHO.I cut off the offending sheephorn with my genuine Schrade LB7 and I reckon I heard it laughing while it did it. None of my genuine Schrades will even talk to them in my knife cabinet.I feel sorry for them in a way as they are neither one thing or the other. One thing is for certain Taylor continues to EXPAND on the line of knives producing everything and more from the genuine offerings.I see Chirade Pro Hunter Desert Ironwood's selling overseas for 5 times the amount you can buy them for in US.Because the buyers will use them...No .. because they are mis represented as desirable, and quality Schrade collector items that look pretty to the unknowing which is of course what it is really all about.MONEY. Tim, despite my recent claim of disinterest in Chinese Schrades, i am really looking forward to your test results. i have read a couple of comparisons, but nothing very thorough. so, you're leading the way here, right on ! roland

Thanks
Both sets of 70Ts arrived Thursday Friday so I am planning to do test in next few days.
Obviously this time Australian Customs is being a little kinder on me than on Larry, I purchased these on the 17th and the 22nd from USA and both sets are here.
Im going to use a thick cardboard box on them as Cardboard is pretty hard on blades. I have a huge medical equipment box packed in my car at present.
Any ideas thoughts appreciated.
Regards Tim

Making cuts of rope is also a good test that some people use to compare blades.
Compare how many cuts each blade makes before it becomes noticeably duller.

Tim,
In most of the tests I have seen I think it was manila or sasil (natural fiber) ropes. However, I don't know that it would make a great deal of difference what you used as long as you tested both knives with the same rope.

On second thought, nylon rope may not be a good choice, if it is the kind that tends to become un-braded when it is cut. That might pose a problem as the knives start to dull. The nylon rope may want to mash apart instead of cutting. Perhaps that is why I have always seen it done with natural fiber ropes.

The way I have seen them cut is to lay the rope on a board & cut through the rope using the board as a "cutting board" so to speak. The tester usually cuts about 1 inch pieces, noting how many cuts he gets with each blade before it starts to dull.

Please let us know what the results are.

I guess this is as good a spot as any to jump in. Taylor LLC now has a presence in Tennessee. I know little about it, but can add someting you all need to know. There are now some knives appearing by "Schrade Walden USA" I bit twice before I found the hook.

These knives are newly manufactured in the U.S. using American cutlers, They are tang stamped "Schrade Walden USA" and have jigged bone handles. The quality seems good on first impression, but I am leery nonetheless. The giveaway (besides Walden in the name) is that a small line of print on the side of the box says "Used under license from Taylor Cutlery, LLC".

So guys, "caveat emptor" and watch these things lower the resale on the REAL 2004 and prior U.S. Schrades.

Good hunting friends!
