Quality of SAK

there is nothing in that price range that beats the quality and durability
fit and finish are as good as folders that cost 3 4 times more
great little multi tools, and very sheeple friendly

How about the hiker? Is seems about the same as the majority of the other models? That model seems to have everthing that I would like to have: Saw, two blades, can opener and bottle opener, along with the screw drivers. And its small enough to fit in the pocket comfrotably.

PSST... I'm actually running a 2000 post giveaway right now for a Hiker, check it out...

I love my farmer. The only thing I wish VIC SAK's had available was the alox model farmer with a one hand opening blade that locked. In fantasy land, thats my EDC.

with black scales.
*drooool*

scissors, tweezers and a toothpick(three things I probly use the most), one can dream.... We can call it the WS&S SAK or PERFECT for short

I love Vic SAK's I think I have about ten of them , I edc one I have one on my keys. They are great, if you use the right tool for the job they last a long long time and you don't have to worry about the rest of the world judging you for having a knife with you.

for what I need a good SAK is the perfect knife for me...

For me they are truely the biggest bang for the buck in quality and performance! The steel is a little on the soft side, but that's because it is made to be touched up fast and easy. Even though all mine are Victorinox I have the same respect for Wenger:thumbup:! I just ordered a Pioneer and look forward to carrying it on vacation next month!

Hi,

I only own one SAK, a Vic Soldier. But it's found a place in my EDC rotation in with my Case, GEC, and old Colonial slippies.

At first I thought it's edge holding was horrible. No where near my carbon steel blades. But someone said that if I convexed it, the edge would be stronger and last longer. They were so right! So if you don't like the edge holding on SAKs, try convexing it. And then see how you like it.

I like Victorinox mfgd. SAK's. If the stainless blades are a trifle soft, that just means that they re-sharpen instantly with a little X-shaped GatCo. pocket sharpening jig.

The blades don't rust when you clean the odd trout. If you drop it into a stream and it disappears forever you won't cry your eyes out. (who do I think I'm fooling! Most anyone on this board would dive head first into an icy torrent for even the cheapest knife).

Victorinoxes are an affordable and known quantity in the knife world. You know ahead of time that if it has the implements that you think you need, that it will do the job well. What's not to like? They've been on too many hunting, fishing and backpacking adventures for me to doubt them. What they do, they do well.

They aren't a huge Bowie knife. So take that into account when planning your trip?

Buy a variety of them, over time.

Cant go wrong with a SAK especially ALOX for me.

Ah, just found a pic of that, while I was looking up black alox models:

I wouldn't mind EDCing this guy:

although I just like having the saw in the Farmer..."just in case." :)

I love my Alox Farmer. I also have a Huntsman with the plus scales. I use that little pen all the time.

I have owned the same sak for over 10 years and use it daily.. A+

I have also owned a multitude of knockoffs and they never held up like a SAK.

They are good for what they are and serve their purpose, I'd still like them to bring out a special old timey one though with a D2 blade and stag scales !!!!
I've seen a cool mod similar to that, i THINK it was on SOSAK but i read so many forums it might have been another.
I'll try and hunt down a link or pic.
Anyway the SAK has nickel bolsters and stag scales, looked like a fusion of a Case and a SAK.
Very nice!

SAK steel is pretty soft, but the thin blades are easy to get razor sharp in no time. My top favorite three are the Outrider, Rucksack and the Farmer. I will say that I have a Wenger Evo-18 and the steel is the same...it's actually another favorite SAK as it's very compact with a locking blade.

Saks are great! I carry one everyday. For the money you just can't go wrong.

This sums it up perfectly. It's like you are driving in nowhere rat-infested skankville, tired and hungry. You see a McDonalds and think - well I do know what I'm in for here....

SAKs are like a bigmac - but saying that in terms of QA/QC. I don't really like bigmacs, but I love SAKs.

Also as Jimi Wade alluded to. You aren't ever going to pry with the knife blade of a sak. Hell, pull out the screwdriver though and pry with that thing! When you consider those little tools that perform very well - unlike no-name or cheap multi-tools - it really is a great little package that is highly versatile.
