Quality, resonably priced folders?

Been a member here for 3 yrs and a lurker for a few more. Just recently REALLY got into the knife hobby. Previously I bought , played with, then sold 95% of blades that interested me.

Now I'm getting a bit more serious as well as informed.

But...I still enjoy a quality, reasonably priced folder, talking under $100. And steel capable of a decent edge, easily touched up, yet sturdy.

I'm not abusive to folders, but they DO get used between general day to day stuff on the property, Range/shooting time, hunting, fishing, hiking, etc. They do get used, but generally NOT abused.

Just discovered the Steel Will, Cut Jacks. I'm impressed. Have a few BOKER's too that have performed very well for me.

What are some of your favorite reasonably priced folders?

For actual cutting (as opposed to carry, one-handed use, fidgeting, instagramming, discussing on BF) the Opinel No.8 is undefeated.

Spyderco Native 5 LW and Stretch 2 are both good deals for under $100 if you're looking for ideas.

100 posters here will probably have >90 answers to your question. To narrow that field down at least a little bit, what’s your definition of “reasonably priced” and what’s your definition of “quality”?

My post states "Under a hundred dollars'.
Quality; holds and edge, sturdy, easily sharpened....

For not much more than 100$ you can get a Massddop Ferrum Forge Crux which imho represents one of the best values out there right now.

There’s knives like the Steel Will cutjack which represent a great value. Or the there are some great Kizer and WE knives for around 100$.

Bestech. Awesome build quality, D2 steel, G10 handles, run on bearings. Cannot got wrong for less than $50. Possibly the most bang for buck budget folders that ALSO have high end offerings in TI/M390.

Here are a couple of good performers under 100 that I have used:

  • Kershaw skyline
  • GEC 71 Bull nose
Apparently the real bargains right now are in Chinese makers. I haven’t really tried them.

Spyderco has some awesome offerings under $100. Dragonfly, Chaparral LW, Delica, Endura, Stretch 2, Manix 2 LW and more.

Their byrd line is nice too and less expensive yet.

Thanks for reminding me... really need to pick up a chap at some point...:D

Go check out “The Goodfella” over at skblades too! Buck 501 in cpm 154 /w burlap micarta. Comes in just under your budget criteria. (Couple other really nice bucks under and around that budget over there too...)

EDIT: Almost forgot the Maverick over there too. Under $100 and a super steel (also a super “steal”...) in 20cv

yeah it is!
right now I'm digging Twosun knives. Stupid great quality for around $50. Can't speak to the performance of their D2 yet though.

With a $100 budget and your requirements, and sticking to knives I've owned, I'd probably pick up a Benchmade Griptilian, Spyderco Delica 4, or Spyderco Pacific Salt SE. Looking at knives I haven't owned, I'd consider a Spyderco Endura 4 or Native 5 Lightweight.

If you have a bit of wiggle room in your budget, you can also haunt the Exchange looking for deals on gently used knives that would typically be more expensive. For example, something like a Benchmade Griptilian in G10/20CV for $125, or a Spyderco Manix 2 G10/S30V for around $100.

Like others above, I’ll go with a Delica. At ~$75ish, it’s well under your $100 level. For carrying, it’s comparatively small so it doesn’t fill your pocket up and its weight makes it easy for me to forget that it’s in my pocket.

I would suggest a basic VG-10 Delica 4 or Endura. And I would opt for a FFG version for better cutting efficiency, unless you are planning on prying with it. VG-10 takes a great edge, holds it a decent amount, and is easy to resharpen.
