Quality sword under $200

More, just for grins and giggles (by the way, did you look up the Cawood sword?) hre are three modern threaded tangs. Ironically, or not, the widest blade has the narrowest tang and the narrowest blade the widest tang. All three swords have been through the mill of some pretty serious abuse. The Oscar actually used to pound on armor strapped to a side of beef (honest injun). The Del Tin I use around the yard and was actually limbing small branches from a fallen tree last year. The Windlass has had an enormous amount of use and granted a thicker thread but the construction is the least of its issues.

If that's not enough ear tweaking, consider the big falchion next to them on the left is threaded as well. Also the two Angus Trim and two Arms&Armor swords further back on that table. The Patton 1913 sword on the other side is Windlass and as full a tang as you can find. I think they retail for about $169 these days.

Happy hunting

Mmmmm...Patton. :p I've always wondered what the hilt of one of those would be like with a broader cutting-capable blade instead.

The other thing you might consider is upping your price limit and chipping in some of your own cash for a higher end sword or a custom. Sounds like you're looking for something very specific (a lot more specific than your initial post led us to believe), and as you've probably noticed, quality is hard to come by, particularly at the price point you're looking at. I submit that if you want a sword that's going to really make you happy, you're not likely to find it at the sub $200 limit. I've been happy with my Hanwei blades for what they are, but they're budget blades, and you appear to be on a budget. I kinda doubt you'll find anything better than horseclover has recommended in your price point.

Look at Wilknson sword's patent hilts starting in the mid 1800s. Then there is the British 1853 cavalry, which is leather slabs on a full width tang. They say there is nothing new under the sun but that usually mean many live in the shadows of what is out there to see.

I'm a bit late to this one, but I can't think of any sword I'd call "quality" for under $200. $200, however, can get you one heck of a good knife if you go that route.
