Quarter Inch Chopper Battle!

I hate to agree with everyone but the bk21 and the original reinhardt kukri were super forward heavy so I sold both of them and kept the blackjack version. IMO The blackjack is the proper thickness for that length. The one I sold you was actually my second. I thought I was crazy for not liking it, I thought it was probably my fault and I never got the hang of it. Nope. I love my bk4 and I feel like I have my kukri snap cuts down. It's just too much steel to be slinging. The bk4/bk9 are sometimes looked down on for not being longer or .25" thick, but as it was talked about above they are the optimal wight and size. IMHO, people who disagree probably dont use their knives. Of course don't get me wrong, I do love my bk20. I know it's the Becker chopper people have been wanting for a long time now, but my vote is still with the bk4/bk9.

If you're talking about the 21s that nutoknives nutoknives let me borrow, I really like the thin Becker one better than the thicker Blackjack one. Someone told me that the current bk21 is in between the two that I have, in blade thickness that is....

Both be Blackjacks da Bead Blast has the advantage for slow swingers if you want damage da Satin Kukri is da shit as Ethan had asked if I had the pleasure of using as best becker ever he had da pleasure, so I go wid what he said as it takes a use to getting use to Johnny try that 1 out and give it a real good swing you see what Ethan was talking bout.

really tough to beat the original Blackjack models... convexed, great steel, great handles...

the latest BK21 works great imho if you convex it best you can.

the Camillus one was far too thin and sticky.

the 21 worked the best for me after convexing and taking weight out of the tip.

Did that break naturally or intentionally? This thread needs more pics! To hold me over until I get the bk21 tomorrow. I'm curious how it compares to the 2 that I have now!

I'd like to have all 3 in hand for a real world comparison. I'll chop some wood with all 3 and formulate my opinions of each!

Satin Reinhart Ethan's most liked and a Blade few get to try, believe man knows what he talks about as he did mention 1 has to be a knife user or injury may happen, Blade is sick, as all have had da pleasure will attest. We all have our likes, uses, wants and needs as I had a need and a want da Satin Reinhart has yet to have a close competitor as far as a chopper, da 20 a close 2nd da bead blast kukri 3rd and da 6 will go through alot and most friendly miss hit becker as da longest. Just KEEP EM SHARP and be careful when swinging

Best test would be a 5 inch oak limb as all will not cut through da Satin on a very heavy swing will go 3 and half deep da bead blast and satin at just under 3 da Kabar 21 not in hand but almost sure it will not hit the 3 mark da 20 2 and 3/4, da 6 2 plus da 9 2plus, da 7 under 2, da 2 stood and watched every blade has its place, da 15 does da steak. send a Bk21 Ka-Bar if you grab as never tried or anyone else that does not like their blade being abused or used, hope all good wid u and yours Brudda

The bk4 and bk9 have already moved over to my "keep" side of storage, because I like them the best out of the Becker line. I'm just trying my hand at bigger choppers right now. This is where I'll try a bunch big blades out, keep the ones I like and sell the ones that don't make the cut! This knife stuff is a sickness I tell ya....

I think the 29 chops a little bit better than the 20, but only by a very, very small margin. I did like that it carved a little bit better because the taller blade height at the ricasso equals thinner grind at the edge.

Thought y'all might enjoy my latest article. Had some storm fall last weekend and before setting to with my chainsaw I did some side by side chopping with the BK20, a TM Hunt M18, and an LT Wright Competition Chopper. Observations on the link below!

I didn't mention it in the article, but I also did some work with the BK21 at the same time and it outchopped all three of these blades, biting deeper into the main limb than any of them and with less effort than the M18 or LTWK. A little more awkward on a chopping block though.
Good report. I can appreciate how you attribute machete like qualities to the Becker. I have a couple of Dawsons that are LTWK-like and while I love them, they just aren't as nimble as I'd like to do the work you were doing.

Nuto I have a Bk6 with the factory edge. No matter how much I want to swing it I just cant bring myself to do it. More power to ya Brotha. Insert im a Chicken Sh** emoji Right Here!!!!!

DavidCAndersen DavidCAndersen do you have any more up close photos of the modified comp chopper handle? It looks really good! Im thinking I might do the same to mine.

I'll bring it to the Gathering. It's still pretty rough finish-wise, but the shape is definitely better.
