Its not bad,but I think the reate horizon is a much better knife for the same price. Its a bit larger, has similar features, but the finish is much nicer and closer to a midtech than a completely acid washed knife like the spicoli.

I think its a very attractive design and has a good list of features. I'd love to get my hands on one, but I'm tapped out for the year knife-wise. The Reate models do have a leg up using ceramic bearings; but if the Quartermaster knives are truely made in the USA as they claim, it's a very impressive price point for the features.

Most Quartermaster knives are really ugly, but that one looks nice. The 4.8 mm thick blade is just to much for my taste. Does anyone have one? how does it cut?

austonh, what is this talk about them not being made in the US?

I agree with sogflash on this one. fine looking knife, but I don't need a folder with equal blade stock thickness to my ZT 0121.

Internet rumors, ongoing drama type of situation. I don't know if there is any validity to it, hence the uncertainty in my post.

^ I heard the same thing, but if they are well made it shouldn't be an issue. Just not crazy about the new trend of acid washed blades and scales.

I absolutely agree, it's about quality not origin. My only gripe would be dishonesty in representation of a product. But it's all hearsay at this point.

There are a few different finish options available directly through their website for a little bit more money it seems. This is the only option that BladeHQ is currently stocking at the moment.

Oh, so now they are ripping off the classics. Think Fast Times at Ridgemont High now has it's own knife! :barf:

Yawn to the design, at least they are moving to obtainable steel

This is the first (original) design from Quartermaster that I think isn't totally and utterly hideous. I would never patronize their company though and the 0.20" blade is way outside of what I prefer. Also I'm a bit weary of the tolerances on the chain ring bolts they're using on it. There's a length SolosKnifeReview video about the slop in the pivot on the Mr. Roper, and I've seen a few pictures on IG of very poor fit and finish of the pivot bolt itself.

edit: the chainring pivot appears to have been changed from the Mr. Roper - disregard my last two sentences.

Why the hesitation to patronize this company? I haven't really followed them at all because their other designs were terribly gauche.

Avoiding dererailing this thread, I would just say read through this and I think you will understand: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...rmaster-knives?highlight=quartermaster+knives. I don't think the information presented in that thread have been discredited yet by anyone at Quartermaster. Not mentioned in that thread was the design that was outright stolen from John Gray that they were forced to cancel.

On topic: BladeHQ just posted an overview of the knife. Sticky lock with a steel insert?

Was very close to buying this knife until I saw that video ^ you guys weren't kidding about that thick blade!!! I would be all over one if that blade was cut in half.

I just got mine in today. Gentlemen, this knife is just amazing out of the box. The specs are out there, so it either interests you or it doesn't.

But this is one quality knife, no lock stick and just a very minimalist titanium framelock.

I had doubted quartermaster knives for awhile after the warren thomas accusations and such were being thrown around, but really guys, just go follow their second instagram called qtrmstr_backstage - It shows the behind the scenes of them making the knives, just like the proof people here were asking for here so long ago.

How smooth does it open? Does it lock up with authority? Have you tried it out yet? I just need an excuse to buy it.

Even if you don't believe Warren Thomas about the design theft, and even if it turned out the knives are actually more than just assembled in the US, the one unquestionable thing remaining is that Jared has proven over the years to be the kind of untrustworthy person that nobody should do business with.

I'll continue to skip the QuarterMantis knives even now that they've put out a couple of models that aren't a random collection of straight lines with three or four thumb studs tacked on as a bonus.

Very smooth, lockup is solid so far, Have only had it one day so these are my first impressions, I can tell you that I have flipped it hundreds of times and it is a lovely action.
