Quartermaster?

I was looking at Blade HQ's "Coming Soon" page and spotted a few offerings from a company called Quartermaster Knives, does anyone know anything about this company? Their knives look very similar to a few Mantis offerings, is this an offshoot by Jared West? Check them out, let me know what your thinking. They look very Manits-esque to me.

From their website: "QTRM5TR is not interested in selling large quantities of knives." By the looks of things, they'll get to stay in that comfort zone unless there's a sudden surge in the market for knives with sextuple thumb studs or a single serration. If this isn't a Mantis offshoot, they're in for an embarrassing lawsuit.

I gave them a look too, and from the description of the Mantis copy knife it says "In late 2011, we were asked by a fellow CA knife design firm to create a supercharged version of their ultra-successful tactical folder."
So guessing from that it sounds like Jared West asked them to make this.

The whole thing just screams MANTIS SPINOFF COMPANY!

I do like the fact that, unlike Mantis, they tell us all from the get-go that these are USA made. Hopefully it's not BS. Also, the CPM154 steel and pivot bearings make me not immediately dismiss the company. At least not until I learn more about them or see reviews on the actual knives to see the quality. The Karambit is the only product I don't immediately laugh at, though the handle has that Mantis "ergonomics" look about it :P

these are probably about as mall ninja as a knife can possibly get. As if clearly being associated with mantis wasnt bad enough, these first four models are named after members of the A team.

BUT, I will order the karambit as soon as its available. The market for production karambits is rather slim. And I can not think of any with such silly overbuilt dimensions as this one. If this is a model that is actually well built and with the listed materials, my hat will be off to them.

Gotta' be a Mantis spinoff. Good for them taking on a US-made venture, but they're as ugly and ridiculous looking as ever. :o

I want to like the designs because they are different, but i'm not sure...still on the fence. Also red flags because of Mantis's bad reputation.

WTF is a "Subliminal Frame Lock"?

Hilarious!

I had to look this knife up after you mentioned the description.

It actually says "subliminal frame lock."

...We cant give you what you want physically ,but subliminally, we've got you covered.:D:thumbup:

It means it only locks long enough for you to hear it click upon opening, influencing you think that the knife has actually locked. :D

These look "interesting" to say the least. The second set of thumb studs have me confused but the materials, price and fact that they're mad in the U.S. have me slightly interested. BUT, the designs are just WAYYYYYYY to similar to not be related to Mantis knives in some way so I'm definitely going to wait until there are some reviews out there on these.

They named the knives after A-Team TV show charters! You got to collect them just for that. And from what I saw on the web site it looks to be a Liner Lock why they just did not call it that is above me. But made in the US and 154cm steel at a affordable price. LOL holy crap that one knife has 3 yes 3 thumb studs I guess that in case the other 2 fall off. Damn it the more I read the more I want one. " We’re confident that this tactical folding knife will dominate the industry’s very best examples of hard-core tools." taken from the web site.

I think that if they are genuinely trying to re-vamp their quality by branching out with quartermaster, then I will definitely buy myself a Baracas. But it always lowers my expectations when someone tries to sell you on the IDEA of having one of their knives rather than the knives themselves. When it comes down to it, I just want my knife to make the cut

Just saw these online and searched for this thread. I agree with the consensus, this looks like a Mantis spinoff with a made-in-USA emphasis. Cool, but the designs are just too silly for my tastes.

I just placed an order for the karambit directly off their website. I took a chance hoping it's not like the cheapo Mantis folding karambit options. Time will tell.

It sure is some interesting stuff. Why a 5+ oz., .750" thick handle with a 2.75" blade? Not sure who would carry something like that. I know I wouldn't.

154cm or cpm-154? Mantis? A-team? Lots of questions... Few answers.

According to their site it's CPM 154. From their site:

Our first models are offered in CPM 154; a tried and tested premium U.S. made steel. We’re currently testing new high performance alloys such as B70P and BD4P as we get set to introduce additional models to the lineup.

I'm not sure what to make of it, time will tell... I'm not gonna be the Guinea pig though:D
